Anyone with a 300mhz Axim care to try this? I have a 400mhz so I guess it won't work.

I used to use overclocking utility for my Palm Vx. Although it did make the unit faster, I had my apps crash several times. Generally, I wouldn't recommand overclocking your unit. It might even void your warranty....

The fact that Axim is using Micro$oft's OS makes me scary also. Hey... even Palm OS crashed!

This current version released will only overclock the 200Mhz. IPaq to 300Mhz, he is still working on a generic version for the Axim.. 300 to 400.

Anyone know if the 300 MHz and 400 MHz are truly different processors or just locked at different frequencies? Overclocking by this percentage on any desktop processor would be foolish at best, so I'm wondering whether it's just a marketing thing.

From what I've read, they are the same processor, just locked to different clock speeds. In reality you don't overclock a 300mhz since its capable of 400mhz. Now if I can just find a way to overclock my 400.... <_<

But just watch in about a year when Pocket PC 2004 or whatever they decide to call it at that time is released. Everyone with the 32 megs of "rom" will be out of luck.

Well there is the difference of the ROM. :D

The Xscale PXA250 processor was designed to be scaled in 100 MHz increments, so I guess you could slow down the processor to save on battery.

If by chance they do exceed the 32 mb of ROM then they will drop some of the applications that are not necessary the same as they did in the 16mb upgrade for the IPAQ's and presently on the 1910. You will then have the option to reinstall these apps in RAM or memory card. It is most unlikely that the actual operating system, which is presently less than 16mb will ever exceed 32mb in the normal life span of the your PDA.
Almost every PDA (with a few exceptions) is 32 mb or less so making a new system that exceeds that would certainly cut down sales. Remember this is all driven by $$.
At present the benchmark tests are only showing a 8% improvement for the 400 over the 300. Two years from now when they have 1 gb machines who will care if it's a 300 or 400 they are both out dated. So you sell your 300 for $125 losing only $75 and buy a new one.
Just when you think you have won the rat race, out comes a new rat!!

You can change the processor speed to save battery power. Under START - SETTINGS - POWER applet - PROCESSOR tab you can toggle the 400 MHz version between 400 and 200 (PowerSave choice).

I belive this is the one: http://www.intel.com/design/pca/prodbref/298620.htm
