Axim x5 not recognizing SD Card

Hi,

Altough the Card works well with the PC it doesn't appear in any X5 menu or folder.

Any idea?

Try doing a soft reset (push the button on the back of the unit)

I had a similar problem this morning with my X51v. If I formatted the SD card in XP (command prompt) I would get a "Invalid media or Track 0 bad - disk unusable." In XP itself it would say something about not being able to finish formatting.

I formatted the card in command prompt with "format g: /FS:FAT" (where g: equals the cardreader drive) which resulted in a completed format; however the size was still incorrect. I then put the card into my X51v and it found it. Then I used Pocket Mechanic to format it and now it's as good as new and the correct size.

HTH,

Graeme

I think the problem comes with de Axim SD Card Reader...sometimes the SD Card appears at file explorer, and sometimes it doesn't... everything looks quite random. I maybe playing a song from SD Card, and when i try to listen next song, somehow SD Card disappeared. With luck, and after a few soft resets, SD Card appears again.

no detection that SD card is inserted

Unfortunately, my Axim doesn't seem to be reading my SD card anymore. I'm not sure what's wrong. Does anyone have any tips or links (to other posts) on how to get it working? My SD card still reads just fine on my laptop card reader. And it's been fine on my Axim for about 6 months, but just now it stopped working. Previously, if the Axim was turned off, it would automatically turn on when the SD card was inserted. But now it does not. It seems like it's not recognizing that I'm inserting a card.

Thanks,

ApeMan

I am totaly not an Axim pro by any means, but I have seen this before on other equiptment. The contacts in you Axim could just be very dirty or if you have inserted and removed your card a few thousand times, they could be worn down as well, and not making proper contact with the card. Canned air might help blow the dust out of the contact area, but be careful not to let it spray out in liquid form.

Ok, thanks. I think I will try this. I also just tried inserting another perfectly good SD card and it also would not read on my Axim. So I'm sure it must be the reader on the Axim that is causing the problem. Do I have any other options, such as sending it somewhere for repair? I'm pretty sure the 1-year warranty is expired by now.

I removed the 4 screws on the back and opened up my Axim. I couldn't find anything apparently wrong with the SD card reader (all the connection pins seemed just fine to me). I blew out the insides with air. No change.

I have no idea what to do now. Does anyone know how to go about getting my Axim repaired (by a pro)? Is it possible to find a local repair shop? If so, how? Do I have to mail it in somewhere? Does Dell or Dell Canada do repairs?

Thanks,

ApeMan

I started having the same problem with my acer 128mb card, it's been working for years but not anymore. I tried with an old 32 meg card that came with my mobile phone, and it works just fine. Don't know what the problem is. It does seem though that my old card is a little bit thicker than the 128 meg one, so maby that's a factor.
