Recent Palm to Pocket Pc convert here. I've only had my Axim for a couple days but find the Palm much easier to use that Pocket PC. I will get use to it and after a few months maybe even prefer it. The Palm OS seemed more intuitive and generally simplier. On PPC, you just have to dig more.

The main reason for the switch was multimedia and a better screen.

Anyone else a recent Palm convert?

I too recently switched from palm to ppc. I originaly had a palm deluxe which sorta fit my needs, but soon enough I was going over my 8mb limit. Then when I found out about the axim with its capabilities and its low price I decided I would definately go with this. The Axim has proved to be much better than palm os where it concerns me.

Greetings;

I'm not a recent Palm convert, two years ago form a 3xe to an iPAQ, But I had little trouble with the change. The PPC system seems to me to operate more like the desktop OS which is easier or me. I didn't like the palm OS it seemed unnatural.

AximMike you are correct that the Axim is more complicated. More useful, too. I was "awarded" a Palm some time ago as a reward for a project I was on, and when I fired it up it was so simple I put it back in the box and never took it out again. My PPC was much more powerful. Yes, it did take some learning, and the Palm was more intuitive, but then again a TV on/off switch is intutive, but a good tv remote control can do so much more than just on and off.

So, hang in there, climb that learning curve!

My 2 cents...
I too am a recent Palm convert. I have been using a Palm V for 3 years and then a Visor for 1 year. I do like my Palm and if I could afford the Sony multimedia Clie's I would switch back in an instant.
The Palm is simple but not because it can't do anything but because it does it well.
The only reason I switched to the PocketPC is because the Axim's were so affordable and can play mp3s and video.
But, the main reason I use a handheld is to plan out my days. And, I still find the Palm software and OS perfected for that purpose.
Having said that, I do like my Axim and if some developer can come up with a software to mimic the simplicity of the Palm OS then I think we have a winner.

I just got my Axim in on Dec 20th, have been using a Palm IIIc for about 4.5 years, loved it. But it started to give me some problems [mostly battery and a cracked case] at about the same time this was going on I read an article about the Axim. The cost and features is what swayed me over from the Palm. But I am still trying to get use to it. I have trouble entering data, maybe it is just me but the transcriber just doesn't work for me. But then again, it took me awhile to master the Palm. I am very sure that I will really enjoy this as much as the Palm. Just wish that MS would not push Outlook though. But I may like it one day.

Try to figure out how to play mp3's on an M505. That's what I would call complicated.

I've never understood how the virtual keyboard or Transcriber can be more difficult to use than having to learn Palm hieroglyphics. :D

There was a program named JOT, which was very good at recognizing script on the Palm, I couldn't master graffiti either. On the Axim, I am sure that I will adjust and it will all become automatic

Well I guess it depends on what you are used to. A Nimbimbo is easier to use than a full fledged gaming computer. But the computer has more power. A Axim has a steeper learning curve than a Palm, but is more powerful.

Well it is a couple years later and I need to add to this thread. I had a sony clie a couple of years and I loved it. But I added a 64m memory stick to it and it slowed down to a turtle pace. A friend told me about the Dell with 400m processor and I decided to go with it. Anyway I really miss the Palm OS. Especially the lap top version of the duo. I am still struggling after about a year with the Axim.

The transcriber wants me to be more than perfect in my writing.
Sometimes when using the transciber it puts thick black lines when I touch down on the screen with the tip of pen. I cannot figure that one out.
I keep losing all the books I put in my reader.
And the pc os on my lap top is still difficult for me to use.

If anyone has answers to these struggles... THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP.
