Can't restore .dbk to my new 2003 OS

I purchased upgrade OS for my X5... 2002 to 2003. I backed up my stuff per standard procedure (but not by way of active sync). Now I can't restore my .dbk file. I've tried a lot of diferent things that I won't get into here, but none have worked. Mainly, I need the contact and calendar info more than anything. The total file size in 26mb. Any ideas?

At this point, I don't even care if it gets back on my axim. I'd be quite happy to see it all in string text on a piece of paper in my shirt pocket. Help!

The easiest way would have been to sync to Outlook before the upgrade, then resync after. You cannot restore the backup file across ROMs.

Surely I'm not expected to believe there's no program out there that can't crack out the info from this .dbk file. ????
