The x5 was probably the best pda I've ever owned. My progression was compaq aero, ipaq 3850, x5, x30h, x51v. Out of all of those, I prefer the shape and feel of the x5. The controls are perfect for playing games as well.
Looks like you got a good buy. I also bought mine off of Ebay and am very pleased with it. I did make sure there were no scratches on the screen before I bought. I have had it for almost a year now with no problems.
In the states, you can usually insure things like that very inexpensively with a rider on your homeowners insurance. I insured my laptop for about $50 a year. Contact your insurance agent and find out what options you have.
