Activesync & Outlook 2003 - Lack of Communication

I've come to learn that there's very little communication going on with both activesync and Microsoft (the company). This is a program widely used by the mobile public and widely abused by Microsoft. The amazing thing is, it won't work with their own software!! (well, based on their track record maybe that's no surprise to anyone).

I hadn't used my Axim X5 for several months now because I was having trouble syncing my Axim with Lotus Notes (my company's email). I was convinced it had something to do with their firewall or proxy server). I've since abandoned this sync and decided to sync with my Outlook 2003 program. After all, it's my personal Axim "why should I spend time & money using it for work!"

Well the short story is that I'm having problems syncing Outlook 2003 with my X5 using Activesync 3.7.1. I started with 3.5 then went to 3.7, then 3.7.1, uninstalling and upgrading for each step. It appears that communication between Outlook & AS is a "one-way" street. I can add appointments to my calendar in Outlook and they sync perfectly to the Axim. However if I create an appointment on the Axim and try to sync with Outlook I get unresolved items. If I try to resolve these items it only appears to be successful with half, but not all. It keeps telling me that Outlook can't resolve because another program is accessing Outlook (it's busy...that's a good one!). I've turned off my security software (McAfee) and messenger and still no success.

Anyone have suggestions? I've seen quite a bit of posts regarding this issue but none which really solved the problem. I expect the worst (that is..."no solution"), that way I'm not dissapointed.
