ActiveSync only connects as Guest

Hi all,

since I had the stupidity to update ActiveSync 3.7 to 4.1 I have gotten a lot of sync problems.
after uninstalling/reinstalling cleaning up DLL's I've gotten so far that my Axim 5X is connecting again to my PC ( via USB cradle). The only problem is that it always connect as user Guest, and I therfore am not able to sync my Ootlook, calendar, ..

I have tried all solutions as described at : http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/acti...Guest%20Issues + Hard reset en Name change, but I still stuck with my Guest only connection.

When connecting my Axim the following lines get in the log files :

if i understand correctly, AS 4.1 was designed specifically for WM5.

if you are using an x5 with PPC2002 or PPC2003, you will want to use AS 3.8, as that is the latest version

That's correct ! I'm using 2003 with ActiveSync 3.8 ( see log files) but I'm stuck with that guest only sync !

oops! sorry i missed that :)

what you could try doing is deleting all partnerships. open activesync, and but leave your axim off, or apart from the cradle. the delete the partnerships

plug in your axim again, and start anew

I had activesync 4.1 on my dell x5 and also received many error messages.:exc:

This is what I did.

Deleted the software completely from my computer through (Add/remove programs, Windows explorer, Search - look for Wcescomm.exe and Microsoft activesync.

Disconnected the pda [this is important] and rebooted the computer [winXP].

Reinstalled activesync 3.8.

In connection settings box, checked Allow usb connection settings and Show status only.

It worked for about a week with everything, caledar, inbox, files, avantgo, ect.

And then like you, I went into guest mode.

So, I opened device manager on my computer and deleted the Dell under Win CE USB devices - you can do this WITHOUT rebooting the computer, keep trying to delete if it asks you to reboot. Once it deletes and you hear the hardware disconnect sound, remove the Dell from its cradle, soft reset it and turn it off.

Returned it to the cradle, and my computer found new hardware named Dell Axim X5.

Activesync found its old partnership, updated, and I'm back in business.
