Phantom emails in my Inbox
Guys- I had this problem awhile ago and I fixed it somehow, but for the life of me I can't remember. Let me explain;
After doing a full restore from a fairly recent backup (to resolve an unrelated problem), I noticed that I now have about 20 "phantom" items in my Dell's Inbox (these were real emails at the time the backup was created, but were removed from my PC's inbox over time). Well, now that I did a restore from my backup, these emails re-appeared....sort of. I call them phantoms because although I can still see the title of the emails in my Axim's Inbox, I can't delete them, open them, forward them or do anything with them!!! Whenever I sync, my real emails simply appear above the string of these 20 phantom emails. Although this is not adversely affecting my real emails, these phantoms are driving me crazy!!! How can I get rid of these things???? Is there someway I can use "Total Commander" or Explore (via ActiveSync) to actually go into the files themselves and delete these individual phantoms?
One thing I did try, I actually located the real emails on my PC and I tried to re-sync them. Well, it treated like a regular syncing email, totally ignoring the phantom. I'm hoping someone can help.
Thanks-
Dave

I had this happen a couple years ago, too.
I think I fixed it by going into \Windows\Messaging with my file explorer. There were folders with the emails listed as files within them. Deleting the files deleted the phantom emails in Inbox.
You might also find them in BIS if you set up an attachment folder in there.

Hey Chrissss-
Thanks for your help with this....Using Windows Explorer, I went into Windows/Messaging and deleted all the files (as well as BIS' attachments folder) I could find. Then I re-sync'd.
Still there...
You're definitely on the right track, though. There has to be some place in the file where those email headers are being stored, but I have no clue (any more ideas)

Did you try a soft reset after you deleted those files, also see if you have files saved in temp folder

still there, but I know we're close...
Yup, tried that. I actually went into all the inbox folders and subfolders AND inbox messaging in Built-in storage, Temp and Windows and removed everything, and re-set, yet the phantom headers still remain.
There has to be something in the Windows directory that's not necessarily under inbox (like in the databases, there are a few called Active Sync Mailbox data stores), where these stupid things reside. I'm just not sure what it is and if it can be safely deleted.
DAMN
