axim5 lockup

I've had my
Axim for a couple years. Last summer it started freezing up, mostly while playing free cell. It got so bad that the other basic programs were freezing up as well. Free cell was the only program that didn't come with the Axim. I did a hard start and had a hard time getting my info from my main computer, but finally accomplished that. Then, I downloaded another free free cell program. The Axim now locks up while using any programs and sometimes even before I log in my password. I can get it to work by rubbing my thumb across the screen a bunch of times But it's very inconsistent. The soft start doesn't alway work either. Frustrated!

Tim,

Perhaps your touchscreen is the problem?

Check out this link for some detailed suggestions for how to straighten out unresponsive touchscreen issues (see Post #3):

If that doesn't cure the problem, perhaps you could try reloading the PPC OS via the "CF bootloader" method. Here's the link for that (see Post #2):

Good luck! :approve: Tell us if you have any....

Best regards,

Lots of info to consider

Steve,
Thanks for pointing me in some directions. Looks like it may take me a while to get through the options, but I'll start with the simple ones first and keep digging. I will post my successes or failures down the road. I did try the paper under the screen, but still locking up.
Thanks again,
Tim

The X5 seems to be working better after cleaning around the screen. Lockups less frequent. Squeezing the sides seems to free it up. From what I've read, it seems that pulling the unit apart and completing the black tape procedure is likely to be the cure.
