Worried Activesync Partnership

I am having problems with synchronising data with 2 PCs (Office + Home). (I just started using this 2-PC partnership today) While it gladly accepts the partnership 'per se', It doubles the nos of files/contacts/tasks/etc. to be synced and gives the option to either:
1. Combine the data with PC and Axim;
2. Replace data on Axim;
3. Leave it unresolved!

Now I definitely had more files and pictures on the Axim (none on the home PC's Axim folder), but the contacts were exactly the same. So I chose the replace data on Axim option. (They did not have replace on PC!!?) Anyways, so I was hoping that only the identical files would be replaced and the newer ones on my Axim would not be touched. However, after the synchronisation, the contacts which were the same were fine but I lost all files on my Axim!

I definitely have a copy of my files and images in my work PC, but will I have this problem everyday??

How should I synchronise my Axim with my Home and Office PCs? I am using Windows XP on both PCs and while the home PC has Office 2000, in office we use Office 2003. Could this be an issue? The activesync version is 3.8 which allows 2 partnerships. Also: before I synced, I had set the rules in the Home PC Activesync to "in case of conflict replace data on PC from device" option.

Could I please know what I am doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Arpan. Choose Option 1 (Combine the data with PC and Axim). In ActiveSync-Options, Rules tab, set the Conflict Resolution to "Always replace the item on this computer". I think that will achieve what you want.

Hi BlessidThug. Thanks for the assistance, ... I hope by choosing the combine option, I do not have duplicates of all contacts/notes/etc. 'cause it will be a pain choosing which to delete since not all would be common! (I had this situation with my Cassiopeia A11 HPC which I why I was reluctant to choose option 1)
Should I still give it a try?

Thanks BlessidThug! I did what you said and it was fine: I did not have all duplicate entries in the contacts as I had assumed (only a few contacts which were minimally modified were doubled). However, the files doubled and I had a duplicate list of files on my Axim named "Changed Copy..<filename>". Is there a way to avoid this.

Thanks again!

Happy to help :) at least partially. I did a search and found this on Brighthand, see if it applies to your situation:

"I think that what causes this is modifying BOTH the desktop and the PPC files without synching. I sometimes have this problem after a hard reset-and-restore round since I sync with two seperate computers.

To stop the cycle, the affected files in the synched folders should be deleted. Of course, as far as the PPC is concerned, simply moving the file out of the "PPC My Documents" folder on the desktop is as good as deleting it.

After you go through the trouble of merging all of your data, make a new folder on your desktop and copy all of your fixed, good files in there. Make sure that EVERYTHING that you need is in that new folder.

After you make sure that you have a copy of all the important stuff, delete all the files and folders in the "PPC My Documents" folder on your desktop. When it is empty and your PPC syncs your desktop, it should empty itself out, too; if there are things left over, delete them manually from the PPC. I <think> that the Templates folder is in ROM, so you can't get rid of it.

After your "My Documents" folder is empty in both the Desktop and the PPC, copy all the files and folders that you saved in the new folder back into the "PPC My Documents" folder. When those files sync back into the PPC, they won't have any flags that will make them do the "Changed copy of ..." thing.

After the files are all fixed you should make sure that you don't make changes on both the PPC and Desktop files between syncs. Since Activesync doesn't know which one is the "real" one you want, it will do the only safe thing it can do and make a copy."

First time poster, LOOOOOOOOONG time reader...

Thanks, BlessidThug! Have been looking for the answer to this problem for over a year! I also sync at work and at home, but have been just "living with" not being able to sync completely at home.

I was a Palm user for many years before switching to PPC last year with an Axim X30h. I recently gave that one to my father-in-law and bought an x51v and all week I have been battling, in addition to the "Combine or Replace" problem, all of the classic WM 5 problems (man, I wish I had consulted Aximsite before I bought it ). Anyway, one down and who-knows-how-many-more to go :rolling:

Thanks again :approve:

You're welcome, Palm2Ppc. They say "Many hands make light work" but so do many heads. I'm sure that you'll be able to get help at Aximsite with any problem that you encounter.
