I was transferring some map files on the sd card and then I got an error the sd card is full with 50mb of the 120mb PQI sd card free. Afterwards the Axim started saying it needs to format the sd card needless to say all my data is gone. Anyone experience such a problem, should i buy a new sd card.
There is a good chance nothing is wrong with the card physically. This seems to happen frequently with Axim's trying to read Sandisk brand cards.
I had this problem. What worked for me was to DL a proper formatting app like StorageTools to format the card. Do a search for this on the board. Format the card to FAT32 and you'll probably have no more such problems.
I know of no way to recover from this without formatting the card, though perhaps others can chime in if there is a way. I expect the problem is that the Ax can no longer read/access the cards file structure. Of course, formatting the card will zap everything on it.
IU've never had a PQI card so I'm not sure how reliable they are.
I've had this happen on 2 of my SD cards ... There are many theories on this and why its caused ... Most seem to be a combination of Axim and SanDisk SD controllers ...
All the cards I've had fail on mine and a friends have had an AR0xxxxx number on the back and were made in Taiwan ... I've heard rumors these cards have a SanDisk controller even if they are not labeled SanDisk.
The ones I have that work great all have a normal serial number and were made in Japan ... A lot of these cards (SimpleTech, Lexar*) use Hitachi controllers in the card
Some people have been able to get their card working right by formatting it as FAT32 using programs like StorageTools and such ...
Just out of curiosity what label do you have on the back of your card?
Every so often I will get a message telling me that I need to format my CF card in order for it to be read. I always choose no, turn it off, turn it back on and everything works fine. You might want to try that if it ever happens again.

My 256 MB is an AROxxx Taiwan. I did have problems with it until doing the FAT32 format. Not a single problem since then.
I also have a 256MB SanDisk SD card. I formatted it to FAT32 with 512byte sectors. I had a My Documents folder setup with nothing in it. I have lost all my data on the card six times. I just copied a folder from my CF card to the SD card. The My Documents folder was gone (along with the folder that I copied) and there were about 30 unnamed folders showing on the card. Storage Tools is unable to repair this card. The only thing that seems to work at this point is reformatting the card. And yes, this is one of the Taiwan cards, AR0302LR.
I found a 256MB Lexar card to replace it. The package said that it was made in Japan. The card said it was made it Taiwan, AR0301LR, and it was slower and crashed sooner than the SanDisk labeled SD card!

That's the first problem I've ever heard of with a Lexar card.

I have heard it said that the death penalty is not enough of a deterrent.
I think that's because it takes too long to be carried out.
That would be the 3rd Lexar I've seen that didn't work right ... Thats why I asked .. One from my friend here, one from geneb and one from someone on the Axim chat ...
The reason I asked was the first 2 I saw had the EXACT same type of label on the back as my 2 failed SanDisk cards ...
Now thats not to say all Lexars are bad ... I just bought my son a 256meg Lexar SD card for his Axim ... But it actually says Lexar Media, Made in Japan
So out of my cards here from the labels on the back of them:
Its just too much of a coincidence for me that all the cards that have that same AR number on the back have failed for me ... For the short time that they did work the AR cards were just so damn slow ...
If anyone actually tried the "Search" function, we would all be much happier, not having to repeat the same things again, and again, and again, and again.......
Anyway, did you say "AK0301LQ TAIWAN" ? You would be happy to know that my Integral SD card has the exact same code, and has produced the exact same error. I was thinking about sending it back to get a replacement, but how do I know that the replacement would be a good one (or one that I want/ordered specifically ?)
So I just let it slide, and I'll make all the use I can out of this card.......if it fails, it fails
