I was carefully reading the instructions, and at the very end it mentions
"When the update is complete, check the updated version number by checking the system information on your Axim. Tap Start® Settings® System tab® System Information.
If it is an original versio A00 is normal. Any upgrade after will change this to A01, A02... etc... My version of WM2003 is at A05 and the hardware is at A08

Right now i have an X5 300mhz PP2002, with ROM A02.
According to this CD i have, it will now have A00 when i install the upgrade. So should i then go from A00 to A05, or am i just totally lost and do not even know what i am talking about???

I believe you can upgrade to A05 from any version you may have.
Either it's a typo in the manual. Or you have been scammed. Ppc2003 would give you A05. I have no idea where my manual is or else I would check mine. Maybe someone else can?
Your Ebay seller had a good feedback rating?

Yes, he has a very good rating, and the software i downloaded which you have to burn to a CD looks like it was a Dell Release, not just something made from a user.

It worked!!
Probably it was a mistake on Dell´s (mentioning A00). But my machine now says A05.
I have another upgrade that will update it to A09 and now it has Windows XP SE 2007 and it converts the IR into Bluetooth/GPS...just kidding, sorry for the bad joke :) , I know A05 is as far as it gets.
Thanks to all for your help!
P.S. By the way I know about A05 and everything, but where do i see that this machine is PP2003?

It doesn't specifically say that it's WM2003, but if you go to Start -> Settings -> System Tab -> About, it gives the version number. If you want to match up the version number to the product name, go to:

Question:... I saw the WM2003 cds on ebay for the axim x5. ANd am very tempted to get that upgrade... my main problem that im having with my axim now is that, i can't get .avi OR EVEN some MP files to work..matter of fact, i cannot get ANY video files to work... will upgrading to the wm2002 A04 (i have A00 now) or even the WM2003 A05 work better?
I Also saw that website that allowed to download the WM2003.. IM very tempted to get on that, but need to know from someone else if it worked Fine for them....
Mind you, im a beginner at the PDA scense and don't know anything about it... but am fairly efficient on Windows OS...

What are you using for playback? Have you tried TCPMP? The .avi file format is just a container, you may need additional codecs installed depending on the the type of .avi file you're trying to play. As for using PPC2002 or WM2003, I'm not sure it makes a difference, but upgrading may be a good idea. If you're talking about this website: *LINK REMOVED BY MOD, PLEASE DO NOT LINK TO ILLEGAL SOFTWARE* people have reported success with it. The procedure will erase all data and you need a CF memory card.
well, never really heard of the TCPMP. I'll read up on it and see whats what.. thankx for the help.. BTW.. im supposing tha this is a straight download for the WM2002 on the axim. and it will be a better replacement for the Media player. am i correct?
I upgraded successfully to version AO5 from AO4 today, I paid £2 all in on ebay UK (the seller had good feedback) for the download plus other common X5 upgrades, and was emailed the details of a website, and was given a user name and password that supposedly lasts 48 hours, I logged in and downloaded the upgrades successfully, I would say that it was the genuine Dell discontinued upgrade. I had a problem at first trying to change the rom to AO5 through active sync 3.7, but I then turned off the antivirus and firewall and it worked fine, I am well chuffed it now reads as version AO5 in system information and version 4.20.1081 in the about menu, so I now have the ultimate X5 and everything is fine! I can even keep the upgrades for future use. I thought it was £2 well spent!

Good luck.
Please remove your link - Links to this file are not allowed here - Chris could get some stick from Dell for it
Please do that sort of thing some other way and not by posting it on the forum.
Thank you
