Worried Active Sync Losing a sync "checkbox" on the PC?

Basically, not sure if a bad application is doing this or not, but for the second time in a row I've had a problem where I would try to active sync and I noticed that my tasks" box would suddenly disappear from the Active sync screen on my pc. Upon further digging into the active sync application on my pc, I would notice that I would not be able to even manually re-select and check the tasks box, because there would be no square box next to the work "tasks" to check.

Over the next hour or two, the situation would get worse and the syncing situation in general would degrade further and further.
Yet after doing what I thought was a successful restore from a sd card backup, the problem would still occur (I would even delete active sync 3.5 from my pc and re-install it, but to no avail). One strange thing I noted during this, somehow the box on the active sync application (on my pc) would have placed a check (by itself!) next to the "allow sync with server" (under the tools/options tabs), even though I had specifically left this unchecked.

I have all the "regular" applications on my axim, but I have also installed the following freeware applications: calender plus, tasks plus, pocket tweak (a registry tweaker which I haven't yet used), total commander (a souped up file explorer), Reg King (a registry tweaker which I haven't yet used).

Any ideas??? Sorry for this incessant ramble!!!!!! :rolling:

Not sure why this happens but it has happened to me a lot too. The only way I have fixed it (at least 3 or 4 times now) has been to do a complete backup, a hard reset and start to sync the axim. Make sure that the sync option is set to manual. Do not actually let it sync though. Just let it connect and see if the check box is there and if it is then restore your last backup and it should still work. Not sure if this will fix everyone's problem but I know that others have tried this and it worked for them too.

Happened to me too...

...and the way I fixed it was by deleting the partnership, doing a soft reset on the Axim, and then setting up a new partnership.

After I did that the problem went away (knock on wood).

Later,

Gary

Join the club. Had you done a restore before the problem occurred? This seems to be what causes it. Deleting the partnership and soft reset did not work for me. Had to do a hard reset and manually reload everything. At which point I purchased Pocket Backup. There are threads dealing with this issue. Search "sync tasks". Good Luck.

Hmm...you know, I recently did a restore, but I can't remember if it was before or after the problem.

I did the A03 rom update, and then restored from a backup. You know, now that I think about it I'm pretty sure the task problem started right after that, because I remember wondering if I made a mistake by doing the upgrade.

Hopefully I won't have any more problems now that it's working again.

Thanks,

Gary

Some fundamental troubleshooting: make a new backup and do a hard reset. Connect the Axim to the PC and let it connect but do not do a sync yet. See if everything works. If it does then your Axim is ok and you have a program that is causing your problem. If it was ok during this part then do a restore. Make sure that the checkbox for tasks is there and working. If it is then go ahead and do the restore. do a soft reset after the restore then see if everything still works. This has been the only reliable way I have been able to get everything back. This has happened to me at least 3 times now and this always worked. Good Luck!

When you say "restore from your last backup", I guess you mean an Active Sync backup, right? I had been trying to restore from my sd card backup I did using the Dell utilities backup application.
So far, no problems (knock on wood), but I'm getting really good about placing all my apps and files in a special "disaster" folder, so if it does happen again, I'll cold reset everything, re-intall active sync on my pc, set up a new partnership and reload everything in about an hour.......

Can we maybe get this thread on the Dell Technician site????
