Question Axim network problem?

Hi, I think this question has been asked for so many times here, but I can't find a thread, which has exactly the same problem that I am experiencing.

I have an Axim (got it today!), and a Linksys CF wireless card. I can browse online with no problem, but when I try to connect to my linux file server running samba, I got the message "A device with the same name is already on the network....", and the same message show up even if I change my device id...

I tried to connect to an XP share, but the same message showed up...

I also tried Resco Explorer, Total Commander... they all show the same messagae.

Any help is appreciated.

Are the IPs the same?
Are the PCs using the same name like a workgroup name?

The ip is assigned by a dhcp server on the machine, which I am trying to access...

And I changed the id several times to different things.

dlaw, I had the same error message, but in different circumstances (tried to file and printer share with my PC after hard reset). I ended up changing my AX name and it worked.

Settings>System>Abouit>Device ID

BTW, I too have a Linksys CF card, so I'm wondering if that is related to the problem?

I changed the name of my axim several times to different names, but that didn't help...

Thanks for all the inputs, and more are welcome!

dlaw, are you using a Dlink DI-614+ router? I am having the same problem and changing the network name of the Axim doesn't help.

When you change the name are you keeping it simple - especially leaving out characters like @, #, and especially _ (the underscore). It's rather strange that the default name is Pocket_PC when the underscore will not work with many networks. The error message is consistent with this problem.

Also, make sure you do a soft reset after the name change.

Thank you Ikehiker...it works great now:) Can you suggest a good program that will let me map network paths to folders on the Axim, if one exists?

u a 9 6 4, Resco Explorer works really well at mapping network drives. It's not freeware, but you can use the trial version with no problems.
