On the day of an event in calendar my Axim turns on to alert me. How do I turn this off as I do not want the Axim on unless I turn it on.

When you set up your new appointment tap 'reminder' and select 'none'. This will show the reminder on the screen but no pda wake up or alarm.

I have not got mine yet, but this is a feature that I am interested in. Is there a way that after it reminds you if its inactive for awhile (like I am not at my desk at the time) that it will shut it self off?
Thanks,
Ben

You can setup audible notifications and select which WAV file to play by going into START - SETTINGS and then selecting the "Sounds and Notifications" applet and then tap the "Notifications" tab at the bottom. Then you can associate different sounds with different events, "reminders" being one of those events. If you want to add additional sounds, you can simply load WAV files into the "Windows" folder on your Axim and then those will be displayed as choices in this screen. I copied a number of WAV files from different movies and use them myself - the classic "computer geek" thing to do.
Of course you can also turn off audible notifications in case you will be in meetings or somewhere you don't want your Axim to make noise. But hey, it's cool to draw attention to your new toy and show it off.

Even while the unit is off (it actually stays on all the time, you just turn the display off) an alert or reminder will cause the unit to come on and display the message - if you have your appointments set to show a reminder. If you do nothing to turn the unit back off or dismiss the reminder message, then the unit will remain on for the amount of time you have specified in the power settings. In other words, if I have an appointment set to remind me 5 minutes before the appointment, but I remember the appointment myself without my Axim alerting me, the unit will come on and display the reminder 5 minutes before the appointment time. If I do nothing, the unit will stay on for 5 more minutes since I have my power settings configured to turn the unit off after 5 minutes while on battery power. The power settings are found under START - SETTINGS - SYSTEM tab - POWER applet - CONTROL tab. You can set the amount of time the unit remains on with no activity while on battery power and separately while on external power.

Have you selected the "Remind me" option when you created the new appointment? There is a drop-down select box that allows you to pick "Remind me" or "None" when creating a new appointment. Even if you have the sounds enabled, if you select "None" for the reminder then the message will be displayed, but no sound will be played. This feature is also "defaultable" so that it is always on for every new appointment by tapping on the "Tools" tab and selecting "Options" when you go into the calendar. Check the box that says "Set reminder for new items" and then indicate a default amount of time you want the alert to preceed the actual appointment time.

TSB8C,
I have a 400 mHz Axim (delivered Dec 15th) and am having problems with my alarms. Whenever I set an alarm, it will go off at the correct time, but will only sound once. Yes, I have 'repeat sound' selected.
This is also happening with my Calender reminders.
Can you think of anything that I can check to make this function work properly (sound that alarm until I turn it off)?
I am still using my HP Jornada 420 because I cannot get this function to work porperly.
Thanks,

I do not know where to set this other than directly in the registry. Go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\Sound s\
and change the "Repeat" value from 0 to 1
(this is a hex value and must be set as "01 00 00")
I'm curious; how do you set this on your HP?

TSB8C,
I did not have to set up anything in the HO, this is the way it worked when I purchased it.
I did purchase it used, so maybe the person that I bought it from set it up (although I doubt this very much).
Where would I find the HKEY_CURRENT_USER file?
Thanks,

That's a value in the registry. You need a registry editor program. Refer to my article in the tutorials section on this web site entitled "Axim Registry Tweaks".

TSB8C,
Thanks, I downloaded and installed the Registry Editor program, changed the line that you suggested without success.
I've rebooted 4 times and I still only get the alarm sounding once.
Is there anything else that I can try to resolve this issue?
Thanks,
