I've got a problem with accessing Network Shares. I've currently got a Dell Axim 400MHz with a Netgear MA701 WiFi card. I can access the internet fine on my campus's LAWN (Local Area Wireless/Walkup Network) and I can even VNC into my own computer. I can also access the httpd I have set up on my computer, so I know it sees it. I just can't access my network shares.

I've used File Explorer (which states that it can't find the network address or I do not have permission to access), Resco File Explorer (from which I can see other computers on the network, but not mine and I also tried typing my own IP address into the text area), and Net Use (from which I type my IP address and a share [ \\IPADDRESS\Mp3\ ] for example). None of them see my computer. Am I missing something here? I thought maybe I had to enable the Work Connection in the Connection Settings and maybe I have to put a VPN or something, but I don't know if my school has one (I go to the Georgia Institute of Technology). I also know that if I use a laptop of some sort with the WiFi, I can access my computer.

I even tried the Microsoft Connection Wizard, which completely screwed up my settings and I had to revert back to my old connection settings.

So what does everyone think?

Update: Well, the PE didn't work. I still don't know what to do, but one of the reasons I wanted the Network Shares was so I could mount my Mp3 directory and stream Mp3's off of it. I found kind of a workaround for it; I'm actually running an IceCast server on my computer now (OpenSource ShoutCast type of thing) w/ Linux (yes I have a Pocket PC with Linux and I can deal with it by using VMWare and Synce) and so I can stream Mp3's off my computer using a Shoutcast program I found for the PPC called GSPlayer. If I could find a way to access the shares, that would be optimal, but this will do for now.

When in Pocket PE go to File-> Map Network Drive. In Session Put whatever you want it to be called. In Server put the name of the computer. in Share put the name of what the folder is shared as (mine is MP3). Put in a username and password that you would use to log onto that computer. And in Domain put the name of your workgroup. Try that and let me know if it helps. It took me an hour or so of messing around to get mine working. Oh, and did you soft reset your system after you installed Pocket PE? It said you had to do that to enable File sharing.

UPDATE: Well, I'm thinking I'm really close now. I can use PE Net Explorer and i almost works. Here's what I do. I hit File -> Map Network Drive... I first tried just putting all my info in, and that didn't work. Second, I pushed the ... next the the Server setting. I then proceeded to pressing the + by Windows Network. Here I first tried to put my Computer Name in the Server setting, but that didn't allow me to access the Windows Network. then I put my actual IP address and the User Name as ftp (I'm using SMB so the ftp user is my guest user). I also put the Domain my computer's in. I can now see the Network. I press the + next to my Workgroup and see my computer! I push the + next to my computer name and it asks me for the same info so I put the IP, Domain, and "ftp" again and lo and behold, there's all my shares. So I select the particular share I want, hit ok, and I get to the first screen with the info filled out. Unfortunately, instead of my IP for Server, it has my computer Name in there. Everything else seems in order so I click ok and nothing happens. No mapped drives or anything. I then repeat and instead of my computer name I put my IP address and it still won't mount... So... once again, any ideas? :)

Question: Are you in a true domain or just a workgroup p2p setup? Cuz I'm having the same type of problem you are, I can see my computer in my workgroup and all; but after I punch in my login info, I couldn't access/mount the shares.

Ok, Try this. I just mapped a new network drive to refresh my mind. Try Mapping the network drive. Then in sesion name use a friendly name (I used Server_Mp3). Then on server name put in the Computers name. Then in Share use the Share name. I tried this time not putting in the Username and Password. the in Domain put in your workgroup name. Then Hit ok. Then hopefully if all goes well it will ask you for the username/password or let you just log in. If it does put in your username/ password that is on that computer. I didn't put in a domain at this point and it worked just fine. After hitting ok it didn't show up immediatly. I just hit the - in front of networks .. then hit the plus to try and refresh it. It showed up then

I'm on a college campus (Georgia Tech) so I'm pretty sure I'm just in a workgroup p2p setup. Keep in mind my main computer is running Linux, so the Username/Password stuff may be different. I haven't tried code_joe's method, but I will try that when I have a chance. Thanks for all your help, guys.

Ok, this works just like the other way. I can see my computer when I put the server and nothing for login and nothing for domain. I can also see my computer's shares, which I so very much want to access, but when I try to mount it, nothing happens at all. Nothing in the NETWORK drive on my PPC.

Any other ideas?

Maybe Try Reinstalling the Program? I had problems with the HP Printing Software (I know .. a lil off topic) and I reinstalled it and it worked fine after that. Other than that I am not absolutly sure. On ? though. When you didn't put in the username/password did it ask for it after you hit ok?
