Try “Windows Media Encoder 7.1” from Microsoft.com. Don’t use the version 9.0 for compatible issues.

After installing the Encoder 7.1, convert any divx or mpg file using the settings “Video for email and dual-channel ISDN (128 kbps)”. You can adjust the settings to get even higher video and audio quality but use the settings I listed here as a template to start from. You can make the settings even better if you have the newer Intel PXA 255 version of the Dell. I own both units and the PXA 255 is a little faster for video.

Using the Encoder 7.1 you can convert 1 hour of video into a 40+-megabyte file. You get full screen video with nice audio and video quality. Make the audio 22 khz.

Good luck

I have windows media 9 installed on my pc and I have windows media encoder 7.1..... When I got to convert a file I have a choice for wm video for wmp 7.1 and audio codecs to choose from that are only wmp 9 codecs!! Ahh!! Where are my wm7 audio codecs?!?! Is the audio going to work on my ppc?
