As I understand it the "entry level" axim runs at a max of 300 MHz, and lowers itself to 200 MHz when the CPU is not running hard.

The "advanced" axim has a max operating frequency of 400 MHz. Does anyone know what it's "low power" frequency (frequencies) are?

Does the "advanced" have more than just two operating frequencies (e.g. 400 MHz, 300 MHz, 200 MHz), or what?

The Ax 400 has three power settings.

1) Normal (400MHz)
2) Power Save (200MHz)
3) Auto (Speed changes according to system status)

Hmmm - I was sorta hoping that it would have more than just two operating frequencies.

From your post, I gather that you can "fix" the unit to run always at 400 MHZ, or always at 200 MHz or, as you wrote, an auto selecting mode where it does what it thinks is best. Is that correct?

Where / how do you set these modes of XScale operation?

Yep.

Oddly, you go to the screen brightness page (the little oval thing on the right of the switcher bar), then hit the processor tab. There will be three modes listed: Normal (full speed), Power Save (200MHz), and Auto.

The X-Scale processor itself is capable of being operated in 100MHz up to it's max rating. There are utilities in developement to let you change the clock speed of the X-Scale, they're primarily designed for the HP 1910, but they'll work on the Axim once they get developed a bit more.

The 400MHz version is officially compatable with the following modes:
100MHz
200MHz (current powersave mode)
300MHz (What the Basic Axim runs at)
400MHz

The 300MHz version is officially compatable with the following modes:
100MHz
200MHz (current powersave mode)
300MHz

Hey - thanks for the useful info, Tom. I'll try to keep an eye out for tools allowing the use of the extended dynamic range of operating frequencies.
