Is there any difference in speed between the SD and CF cards? I'm thinking about getting a 64mb SD card for all my apps and leaving it in there to free up my CF slot for wma's and wireless. I'm currently running most of my apps off the CF card now and it seems to be running fine, obviously it's slower then the internal RAM. But I would like to know if SD will give off the same performance results as the CF card.

Thanks

I believe the answer is yes. Different types of SD and CF run a different speeds. Again, I know SD cards are faster than MMC.

I dunno about the difference between SD and CF's performance... but I do know that they sell different 'speeds' for CF. Futureshop's 4X vs 12X 128MB is a $20CDN difference:

Can the Ax take advantage of the difference in speed?

I believe the speed difference in the xs are only for writing. Reading from the CF card is still the same. The benefit is really only for digital cameras and the like.

SD is faster than CF. I just picked up a 128MB SD from Best Buy for $39.00! I currently load the SD up with MP3's only. For some reason I have video and photos on my CF card- too busy to switch just yet.

SD is faster than CF, but not to the point where you're likely to see a difference when using your Axim. As far as different speeds of cards goes (4X, 12X, etc.), your Axim is limited by bus speed, not card speed, so that would only come into play when you used the card in a digital camera or the like, where you were writing a lot of information all at once. The vast majority of applications for the Axim have you reading just a little information at a time, so you likely wouldn't see any performance gain.

MiniM3, I'm using my card slots the way you're talking about: 128MB SD card for applications and leaving my CF slot free for a wireless card and a 256MB CF card for music and videos and such. Works like a champ, no complaints.
