Processor speed 400 OR 200MHz

Got my Axim two days back, I am puzzling now with the system information that appears there. I greatly appreciate if you can enlighten me on this.

When I go to "START-> Setting-> System -> Power-> Processor"
the pannel dispalys "Current Speed 400MHz" for a few seconds and then turn to "200MHz" This device is 400MHz.

I wonder why this unit is not operating at rated speed of 400MHz. In that panel "Auto" is ticked.

Is this due to something wrong with the unit?.
I greatly appreciate your comments on this.

Thank you.

if you want it to run at 400 all the time you need to check the 400 button... otherwise it automatically adjusts to the apps your running, between 200 and 400.

Yep. You probably have it on auto, which is the setting I tend to leave my Axim on. It saves more power than if you have it set to run at maximum constantly. Like combustion said, it automatically adjusts itself to the needed speed of the current app you are running.

heres a question tho, in order to use the overclockers(turbotray) does it need to be set to 400, or will it work in auto as well?

Hmmmm. . . I honestly don't know as I do not use overclocking utilites. I would imagine, though, that it would need to be in the 400 mode.

You have to get a specific overclocking utility in order to overclock. It is not a standard option. As for Auto and Power save, yes Auto does save power by not running at 400 constantly. The power save option, though, locks the processor at 200.

Setting it to power save keeps it at 200, regardless of what you are doing with the Axim. The Auto will change the speed to 400 if you have a power adapter plugged in or if a program needs the speed (as I understand it, no programs are able to make the 'request' currently because PPC2002 does not support it).

As for the overclocking, I've mentioned this in a couple of other threads - both Dell and Intel have said you should not run overclocking utilities. Dell says it would void your warranty. Of course, whenever I've brought up this point, the overclockers that respond claim there is no danger in doing this and even if you fry your Axim, Dell would not be able to tell that was the cause so you could get it replaced. I guess it comes down to your own sense of ethics if you want to use this as a plan of action.
