Corrupted Excel in X5 advanced

A friend of mine lent me his X5 Advanced to look at. He is having a problem launching Excel. When I tap on the Excel icon, the hourglass (well it would be on a desktop) icon comes up for a few seconds and then disappears. Excel never launches. Knowing that Excel is a ROM program, I am looking for a reason why this might be happening, and (if I am really lucky) a fix.

The unit was bought of eBay and works great except for the Excel issue. I am going to install Planmaker for him as a work around, but the fact that the ROM program is not working (even after a hard reset) frustrates me. I know it SHOULD work, but it isn't.

My little X5 basic is still chugging along great, and I almost feel bad that the bigger badder model my buddy bought can't outperform me.... almost.:approve:

Well, here's an idea. Try finding a ROM backup. Sounds like it's possible the ROM got corrupted and even a hard reset won't fix it. My old X50 lost Word and I never did get it back. So, all I can suggest is that you try and find a ROM backup. I don't know if it's the same, but I THINK I have one that I could get you if you want to try it, but again I'm not going to make any promises
