only after I bought AXIM5 300 did i find that 32M RAM is too small for me, I have moved PIE temporory files and Avantgo files to CF card, but still very few left. I want to uninstall avantgo, I think it is in ROM, how could I clean the rom out to make more space?

First, don't worry. The PPC is a lot more bullet-proof than Windows.

I haven't tried removing programs stored in Flash, but it should work just like removing programs from RAM. Synch your PPC, go to ActiveSynch / Tools / AddRemove Programs.

You can delete files from Flash with File Explorer. Go to My Device / Built-in Storeage. File explorer hides the operating system files, so you can delete any files you see. My Ax has a directory in Flash called "My Documents". I think it was there originally. I have never tried to delete this directory.

If you aren't sure where a program is stored, you can look at icon properties. First, find the icon -- it's in My Device / Windows / Start Menu (or a subdirectory under Start Menu). Then look at the properties second page (shortcut). To see properties, you have to use ActiveSynch / Explore or a 3rd party program such as Resco File Explorer. The file explorer built into the PPC doesn't offer this feature.

Good luck!

Just to be totally clear, you can remove files from Built-In Storage, which is the left-over ROM space, but you cannot remove files from the protected ROM space. I think from the messages so far that you all understood that, but thought it useful to say for any "lurkers" who are also struggling with space issues.

what I concern most is that whether Dell provides some utility to customize the ROM and burn yourself? iPaq is able to.

32M is too small, sigh.

Ipaq has a rom burning utility because it has been around long enough to have some updates. Dell will too, eventually. Until that time, we're stuck.

Absolutely do not put Ipaq ROM code on your Dell. The ROM code includes device drivers. You'll have a non-functional device.

thanks, I hope DELL would provide ROM burning utility asap. Nexttime I recommend friends to buy AXIM, definitely no 300Mhz one.

This is the same reason why I bought the 400 instead.

You could always buy a Secure Digital or Compact Flash memory card to store programs, documents, MP3s, videos, etc. That's what I did. There's no way I could put up with 32MB of storage, heck even 64MB was too small just for MP3s on my MP3 player.

I purchased the 300 for my wife's bible software, contacts, and as a digital photo album. With a 128 m cf card it will be just right as she has no interest in the things I keep loaded on my PPC (pretty much everything I find remotely interesting, or useful), That's why I have 64m + 256cf. For us, it came down to tailoring the ppc to what we wanted to do with them, as proof, I still find my setup "limiting", go figure.
