i gotta question wat is the reason for overclocking your Axims there is no point of doing so. The only thing that you are going to get out of it is a brick nothing else. Its not intended to be a powerhouse device unless u like to blow away 200 or 300 dollars.
Well, I'm not exactly sure if it is the 'actual' speed, because there might be some CPU throttle in place that will lock down some values,
But far as the speed is concerned and the 'life' of the device, I've been using it for 2 years without any problem at all AND I can tell that overclocking to 792 gives me about double of the speed of then I was in 400 mode. Also it battery lasts about 3 hours when overclocked, just like Ipaq :)
as a general rule, when you overclock, you should set the speed 2mhz above what you want it. alot of time the core will throttle back 1 mhz and sometimes more.
!!rember!! when you oc, go until you get errors then step back 14mhz!
Overclocking the processor isn't going to give you much of a performance gain, really. The memory subsystem is still going to have to strobe at the same rate as it normally does - if you drive the processor beyond the rated speed of the memory the device will simply insert wait-states into the prefetch queue to give the memory time to catch up with it. So, an overclocked processor can result in worse performance than running it at its rated speed. On top of that you'll just overheat the processor, cut battery life and shorten the life of the device. Not really worth all the trouble for questionable performance gain.
Computer performance is a symphony of performances of the different components - the processor just being the central component. Increasing performance ain't a simple matter of getting the processor moving faster.
Of course, at this point you're probably not really using your Ax as a workhorse - you're tinkering with it now.
Oh, and I think kenneth's post was almost bordering on flaming, he was kinda rude. like 497mhz for playing videos, it makes them a little smoother. Now I have a question. When I overclock my axim with Pocket Hack Master I tell it to use Turbo Mode as 497mhz. Then, I tap the "Fetch" button and it says that the current speed is 398mhz. Why is it that it is not overclocking the device properly? It also keeps telling me I am using an unregistered version of Pocket Hack Master. Can anyone help possibly?
Just wanted to point out I ran mine at 597 mhz for about a year, with noticable performance gain, but the mem speed was also OC'd so that probably helped. As of this moment it still works perfectl y(though it's back in it's auto 100-400mhz mode) For PIM/books/etc there is no noticeable difference, but there is in video (SNES9x, for instance)
Also, for reference, my X51v actually performs WORSE 1/3 of the time on SNES emulation than my OC'd X5 did!

Well, on Pocket Master, 'Fetch' is the button that tells you the current speed, you have to click on the BIG button that says the 'overclocked' speed,
and BTW, when I overclock CPU, my MEM is overclocked at the same time, I think it was about 100Mhz to 130, which was a LOT faster : )
Anyway I'm just happy with my X5 and don't feel much need to move onto X51, although I will place an order soon as I see some 'big' advantage of buying one.
Edited : Also when I overclocked, the clock BETWEEN 792 and 472 did NOT work, I believe it is because of the memory being overclocked into 'abnormal' speed causes it to hang.
Wow. I just bricked my Toshiba e350 PDA with this. I tried 398 100/100 and it worked fine, tried 597 100/100 now it's stuck with a screen and lines and won't hard reset. :/ Non-removable battery in this model too, so I have to wait until the battery dies, or I take it apart. Never thought O/Cing a PDA would be this risky. (shows me right for pushing it to the limit, instead of going incrementally).
[edit] after taking out the battery (and finding out there's a switch on the bottom to totally hardreset (effectively pulling the battery)) it's back to normal. I just need to restore my backup and play around with O/Cing some more.
