Question How did backup batt go from 100% to 50?

I used the Extended Battery for the PDA I got around 4 hours off and I still have 56% of power left but my pda just came on by it's self in the cradle and the low backup battery alert went off...

What gives?

How old is the backup battery? It might just be time to replace it. Mine tends to need replacement annually even though I don't tend to run the main battery flat.

I seem to remember that the Axim X5 hardware is not very good at reading the status of the backup battery.

My X5 informed me that a 2-week-old backup battery needed to be changed.

With normal usage habits, does anyone have any idea about how long a backup battery should last?

I'm still using the original that came with my unit. Going on 3 years old.

I have seen mine report that the BuB was low. A soft reset often helped to get the Axim to read the level properly. Also have a look at the contacts for the battery. Make sure they are clean and that the battery makes good contact with them. It may help to pry them out a bit (also worked for me when soft reset didn't).

This is a known problem with the X5 backup battery. It might help to pull on the little tab inside the battery compartment to get a better connection.
