It is kind of funny,
I have two partitions both partially full
920MB contains about 528MB of files
960MB contains about 38MB <<< when I hit this number on SD2, both sectors on the card appear empty.
I'm trying to figure out if there is some significance to the amout I have stored.
It is also interesting I could not see a third sector on my Axim even though they totalled less than a Gig, but Flagmax could see 3 sectors on his 1 Gig card!
I believe eventhough we are partitioning the card, the actual sector numbering is still the same. The X5 can't see sectors pasted 1GB mark, so if you make partitions after 1GB, they will not be visiable. This is why no SD Card3. The first two partitions start within the 1GB. Maybe someone else with more knowledge can shine in and explain better.
Maybe some chip used in sd circuit rolls over, kinda like an odometer of older car, when we reach sectors after 1gb. Will changing cluster size affect sector numbering?
it is probably an addressing problem with the axim all the pins for the sd-slot in the x5 must not be connected that are used for address lines some cards can get around that if they have a different controller built into them as far as cf-cards in the x5 i use a 4gig sandisk with no problems when the x5 was first built the largest sd card for sale was 512meg so they didnt anticipate people using larger cards in pdas
Well, I tried a bunch of other sector sizes, trying to maximize what can be accessed. I even tried a little unused space before and between sectors, no good.
Looks like there is no way to trick the Axim into using more than the 1 Gig in the SD slot.
What are people getting working in the X5 CF slot?
There are no limitations or any issues regarding the use of CF cards in X5. You can use any size available right now. Some say 32gb might cause problems but that's speculation at this point.
I have all my apps installed on my SD card so if the CF is being used for BT or WiFi I still have everything. Then the extras fill in the SD and mostly the CF (pictures, mp3 - music and podcasts and whatever else I need).
Add a Kingmax 2GB card to the non-working list too.
I've got the latest Tomtom maps for N.America on there, and it can see them up to the 1GB limit, but Tomtom won't recognize it cos the complete map data is not all there (total for map data is well over the 1GB).
I'm thinking of upgrading to the X51V the next time it goes on sale.

The same with my PQ1 2 gb sd card...... i a m very dissapointed with this problem in my axim x5.....how can be fixed?.........what about creting partitions?
which software can create partitions to SD Card?
On my Axim X5 with WM2003 one 2GB card ULTRA 150X works fine, meaning it has data (TomTom) larger that 1.3GB total, AXIM sees the card, report proper size and the application works fine. The other card PQI 60X works (tested with data size less than 1GB, the AXIM see proper card size), but has a strange problem: if I have this card in a slot, I cannot turn the Axim on until I remove the card or have soft reset. I have two AXIM X5 and cards behave exactly the same on both units. I think the problem may be related to a specific brand or technology used to make the card. Also, I've notice that on some cards it is almost impossible to copy large files via ActiveSync, I am always getting error message. Reformatting does not help.
