Getting a 2gb sd Card to work on x5 with ppc2002 OS

Hi,

Has anyone any idea how I can get my 2GB SD card to work on my X5 without having to upgrade to 2003 mobile operating system?

X5 hardware support 1GB only. Maybe if you partition it as two 1 GB partitions, then it will show up as SD Card and SD Card2. I did this with a 1GB Sd card and it worked great on my X5adv/wm2003. I don't have any 2GB sd cards right now to test.

Great Idea, what utility did you use to split your SD card? I have tried disk manager in XP which the delete partition was not highlighted and Partition Magic PRO 7 which could not see the usb card plugged into my reader. Any help appreciated.

I used "7tools Partition Manager 2005." It lets you partition memory cards.

My X5 seems to recognize my 2 gig SD card, at least when you go into the system and look at it under memory it shows the right amount of storage space.
Or is this like the large drive problem on windows where it will show the right capacity but won't read it all?

Yes, it reads and write just fine in first 1 gb but will not in the second 1 gb. Gives sector error.

I have a 2 Gig SD card, and ppc2003 on my X5 and it will display 2 Gig formatted, and only allow access when 1 Gig or less is used.
I had the card in my PC and copied a bunch of stuff on it (> 1 Gig) and it would not read anything while in my Axim.
I did copy a bunch of stuff to the card while in my Axim (but it was a while ago) and I think it stopped when it hit the 1 Gig limit.

I tried partitioning the card to 2 1 Gig sectors, but it only accesses 1 1 Gig sector.

Did you see SD Card2 on your Axim and you could not read/write anything from it?

Hmm, it was a while ago, but I'm pretty sure it just showed up as 1 SD, and I could not see the other partition and the one I could see showed up as the 1 Gig (formatted to whatever size that formats to).

Are 4GB microdrives a waste of time in the X5?

there are no limits for cf that are availiable at this point in time I think 32gig might be the limit which you cant get right now anyway

After a lot of hours I gave up and formatted my 2gb SD card to 1 Gb, bit of a waste but better than nothing may have to buy a X51v and but I do like the x5 . Thanks to Flagmax for all your help.

Does X5 see SD Card and SD Card2? Did you try to copy something to both using Activesync?

Nope the x5 would only see the 1st partiton even though I had done everything you said and the missus was complaining that if I spent any more time on my pc I would look like a computer, so I took the hint and called it a day....

Sorry it did not work for you. I will need to try this myself with a 2gb SD. I do have WM2003 on my X5, and wondering if thats needed to be able to see two or more partitions on the same SD card. I will try to get a screen shut of my X5 with multiple partition on a 1gb SD later today just to show you I am not making this up, lol.
