Storing the Axim over the summer?

Now that I'm on break from school, I won't be using my Axim over the summer. How should I store it? Should I take the battery out, after I've backed everything up? Or just keep it plugged in the entire summer?

Leave it plugged in all the time. The batteries will last longer and you won't have to restore next Fall when school starts again. If thunderstorms are common in your area, you might want to make sure it's plugged into some sort of zap strip, just to be on the safe(r) side.

You're not gonna use your Ax for the whole summer? Not even for games, music, books, movies, etc? Wow-I can't live without mine.

if i were in a position where i absolutely had to store my Ax for an extended period of time, i would sync to my desktop, do a full backup, and then remove the lithium ion battery and backup battery. I would have to do a complete restore when I eventually started using it again, but that's probably the safest storage method i can think of.

it is actually much better if you could either keep the unit constantly charging, or just find a way to use it every so often. the lithium batteries on the ax supposedly don't have a "memory", but they will probably last longer if they are used regularly, versus sitting idle for long periods.

heh, i pretty much only used it to keep track of due dates, and sometimes as an mp3 player, but I don't have much of a use for it over the summer. :)

It is MUCH better to keep the batteries on a trickle charge (which the charger does) than to let them deplete. LI-ION batteries don't like deep discharges, it really shortens their overall life to let them deep discharge like would happen with them stored all summer not plugged in. They'll be fine on trickle. Just don't let them deep discharge.

In all seriousness, you might want to consider getting a Palm Zire or something. They're great organizers if that's all you want (many times the battery life, too, since they don't have color screens).

What ?!?!?

Storing your PDA? :crooked:

I can't go a single day without mine, just in everyday life. MP3s, games, email, web surfing, book reading, drawing, the list goes on and on.

Somebody take this boy's Axim away and give him a Palm.
;)

The best way to save it is
1) back up back up back up your data
2) charge your battery 1/2 way
3) remove the batteries and store them in a dry moderate temp
