You won't find anything, at least software-wise. Car-door remotes use a wireless radio-frequency connection built around proprietary hardware and software. An out of the box X5 can only do IR. Even a WiFi card won't help you. You might be able to find a CF card that can emmulate one... but I doubt it.

You have to admit that it would be pretty cool. After all, locks aren't meant to keep bad people out. They keep good people in under false pretenses that locks actually matter. If you want to get in bad enough. Well. It can be done.

If you have one of the few models of car security devices that uses IR, then you could use a learning IR remote program for your PDA.

In 99% of cases, no. I have seen a couple that are, but as infra-red requires line of sight and I've seen a lot of cars open without line of sight to any sensor it seems incredibly unlikely that they are infrared.

I also doubt that the ones that are infra-red could be "learnt" using noviiremote or similar as they generally use a different signal pattern each time for locking and unlocking and so once you learnt a particular pattern it could only be used once and then both car and key would move to the next "signal" and what you had learnt becomes out of date....

I also very much doubt that it works on the 2.4GHz Wifi band for signalling so the wifi transmitter is useless too.

Though I admit using my Axim as a key would be cool!

Same church different pew...

How about a program that operates as a remote control for your satellite radio in your car? XM has an IR port to receive remote control functions. Those backseat requests for channel changes might be a little easier.

It isnt the thread i was thinking of, but will serve the purpose of what you are asking. Very tech reading to get one to work...but the WOW factor may just be worth it.

Any of the remote control apps with learning capability will do this. So will a $7.00 learning remote from Walmart. You could leave it in the backseat.
