newbie here - some basic questions about memory cards
hello!
first, Id like to thank the folks here for some great info, Ive already learned more here than any other pda site like how to fix the backup battery giving false reading and not to buy 2 gig SD cards.. and Im learning more each day.. thanks :)
I just received a X5 basic.. its the 300 Mhz (which I overclocked to 400 via Yishen/Yixing's Speed 1.10 program) and have installed some utils and such. I also plan to buy the WM 2003 upgrade via ebay soon. Ive read some stuff that says its faster than 2002, Ill do some benchmarks before and after. even if its not, since most software now is for 2003 Ill need it anyway.
one question I have (and Ive seen conflicting reports on this) is which style memory is faster, SD or CF. a guide here said CF is faster, other sites claim the opposite. Im trying to find a free benchmark that supports choosing file I/O to the different cards (I have a 1 gig SanDisk SD as well as an old SanDisk 64 meg CF card). I suppose if worse come to worse I can just copy a 10 meg file back and forth from main memory to each and time it via stopwatch as I understand that read and write speeds are different but a benchmark would allow better testing.
also is it worth buying "premium" SD or CF cards or is the speed limited by the X5 hardware? since I store most all programs on the memory card if its worth the extra bucks I dont mind paying.
if these questions have already been answered, my apologies for bringing them up again. Im still searching the site but theres a lot of stuff here.
