The handspring uses TTL level communications so the sp3243 chip would probably not even be required .... BUT now you do run into the driver problems.. im counting on the IPAQ rs232 driver working as is for the Axim and i have no idea if it would work for the handspring stowaway.
But i wish you all the luck!!!! And to get you started you can see the pinouts for the stowaway here:

Youll have to sign up im afraid but it is free and then follow petekols link above for the pinouts youll need on the 40 pin axim side.

Hi,

Have read all the above posts with interest, does anyone know of a way of using a normal boring old QWERTY keyboard (like the one that is plugged into my pc) on a DELL Axim, can I use the DELL Axim Serlal cable plus adapter, any software required.

Also, does anyone know if I can use an Infra Red Modem on the Axim?

Regards

Mark Curtlin

Yes. There's a setting in Connections for "Generic IrDA modem," which is what I'm using to talk to the infrared port on my cell phone.

So why hasn't someone invented an IR adapter to an old stowaway keyboard? This would make a bunch of somewhat obsolete keyboards usefull on all PDA's. I have no idea what it would take. I am a Bus Econ major and enjoy the toys but I can't design or explain them. I have a Stowaway for Ipaq 3635 that will get minimal use when my Axim arrives (so excited :D) - Any ideas?

When I upgraded my iPaq 3600 to a T-Mobile Pocket PC phone edition, I was able to continue to use my Targus StowAway keyboard because I found a conversion adapter: datanywhere.net

The concept was based upon the fact that the StowAway also came with an adapter that allows the iPaq 38xx & 39xx work with the keyboard that was designed for the 35xx/36xx.

Now that I own an Axim, has anyone found anything that will let me use my Targus StowAway for the iPaq 3600 with my Axim?

Thanks in advance,
Rich

Did you ever get this project to work. I have an Axim X51V and I have an old Jornada 540 stowaway keyboard (PA820). I would like to use it with the axim and if it is serial link was wondering if I can configure it to use a Serial - Bluetooth adapter and what keyboard drivers are necessary.
