New PPC that's coming out...

Guys,

I really appreciate all the thoughts and info here. After these and thorough consideration, I decided to keep 300 and cancelled the order for 400 and just did so with Dell Customer Support. I also requested the free ($5.50 shipping) PPC 2003 upgrade CD. Bummer that they won't be shipped until late July, a month from now.

Well, I hope people here understand my reasonings. Basically I believe 300 is good enough for the ways I use it (light home use).

I understand that 400 has the advantages of better movie playback, faster CPU, and bigger RAM/ROM (or faster RAM compared to externally loaded programs). However, for the next 6 or 12 months 300 is good enough for me. Maybe it can be plenty good in movie playback when the ROM is loaded with PPC2003.

All in all, I really appreciate all the inputs here. One thing I'm very sure is that this is a great community and will certainly stay here as much as I can.

So, enjoy your Axim, be it Basic or Advanced.

Here Is my dilemma for anyone following this thread ,
I have Sony cyber shot camera's (yes plural) that I use for capturing video. It's an awesome setup (granted if you have light for your subjects as low light poses a serious problem for mpeg movie modes on digital still cameras) This worked great for capture/ presentation on my axim [ well, here are my results- using pocket tv I can max out just under 10 Frames per second(full screen landscape mode is slower)

The new Sony dsc-p10 offers vga video !
I don’t know if it is just higher compression or what but the video does look better on my tv, but with maybe Identical file size per movie length ?
Here is my problem , even though the file size is the same , the vga bogs down my axim to 1.80 to 2.5 Frames per second !! it skips, sounds awful , and don’t even think of displaying it in full screen !

Help !!
Are their better programs out there for playing my vga movies ?
I have already tried pocket divx and pocket real player with no success.
I have even considered the pocketpctech stacked ram 128 Mb upgrade ( storing my video files in the T2T DISK for faster access (realize how desperate I am to do this as this will negate my 3year warranty from dell!)

Videos seem to run fastest off of my Transcend 512 30x CF card

Any suggestions ???

You might want to try Multimedia forum for helps.

I'm not sure if Axim is capable of playing back VGA smoothly. But I've heard numerous times that the newer OS- PPC2003 plays movie much more smoothly than the old one. If you are out of the OS upgrade purchase window, it might still be worthwhile in paying $30 for the PPC2003.
