Axim Shuts Off Immediately

Can't understand this....
My Axim X5 has been working fine, then, all of a sudden, It began turning off
automaticly. No new programs, some clean up of memory, but nothing else.
Turn it on, it comes up to today screen for 3-5 seconds and shuts off. Push any
button and it powers up again right where you left off, then 3-5 seconds later, it
shuts off again and the pattern is just repeated....
Anyone heard of this? Know what's going on? What i may need to do to fix it?
THANKS!
Appreciate any and all suggestions!!!!!

Sounds like a low battery. Is it plugged into the wall socket when you are trying to turn it on?

Hi Ikehiker!

Seems like you have helped me before....
Battery was/is fully charged, as a matter of fact, I have it on wall power now and the same thing keeps happening. It's almost like it is going into suspend mode.
The screen goes completely black (not a dimming or lcd problem) and the unit obviously is turning off completely because when connected to the PC, ASync pings and reports the connection to the X5 is lost/not connected. Touching any button (except jog) incl power button, powers the unit up at the point it was before. Say it shuts down at 54% complete when doing a back up to the SD card, when the unit powers on, it still is at 54% and then continues from there like nothing ever happened. Pushing the power button every 5 to 10 seconds is getting tedious. I've checked the settings for the suspend or power off from inactivity and nothing changed there - still set to 3 minutes. Please, I'll try any suggestions - hopefully short of a hard reset!

Thanks in Advance, my Friend!

Sorry, that was my only idea. The next step probably will be a hard reset to see if it is a software or hardware issue. If you can get the backup to complete, you can try restoring it after the hard reset but that may restore the problem, too. Of course, if it continues having the problem before you restore then that would point to a hardware problem.

Ike ! --

Found the problem!!!!
It was Yishin's PowerCheck.
I selectively went through all the programs on the Today screen as well as checking with SD and CF cards in and out (heard a bad card could cause similar problems...) and sure enough - if the PowerCheck is on the unit shuts off in less than 10 seconds. Uncheck it and the unit functions normally. I've downloaded the latest version of PowerCheck (3.7) and will install to see if that version works. Obviously, the progy got corrupted some how. How does that happen? How would one tell if some other program is corrupt and causing additional problems??? - I mean PowerCheck WAS doing what it is supposed to and functioned normally as far as I could tell. If it wasn't for using "scientific method" and just eliminating or testing one thing at a time - I never would have found it and would have hard reset.....
Will report on the newer version once installed.
One other thing though - in taking out the SD card and reinserting - I ended up with 2 SD card entries in explorer "SD Card" and "SD Card 2". I know there is a an old thread around here about how to correct this - have any idea where to find it?
Thanks Again for taking the time to comment and help out - I REALLY appreciate it!!!

Oh - did I mention that I cant delete the SD card? I'e configured Outlook so it no longer stores attachments on the card, soft reset but when i go to delete - it says the file "index" is in use and i have a sharing violation which is why it wont delete....

OK - taken care of. Used Memmaid to make certain that outlook and PIE files were not being sent to the SD Card - that released the lock and I could delete. A soft reset later and reinserting the card and all is normal. Yishin's PowerCheck 3.7 is installed and working fine. No power "outages" - I wonder what could have corrupted it?
