Today Screen Inbox

On my Today screen the Inbox shows 8 unread messages.
however when I check mail there aren't any there.
mail works fine except it always show i have these 8 unread messages.

Hi, welcome to Aximsite. If you tap on the screen to bring up email and click Inbox...does it list any other accounts, like an Outlook Exchange account or other email account?

yes, it shows several.
ActiveSync, DRAFTS, earthlink, Inbox, IPM.Root, Outbox, and Sent Items.
If you expand any of these they all contain the folders "Deleted Items, Drafts, Inbox, Outbox, and Sent Items. Except for ActiveSynce which only contains the folder Deleted Items.
Earthlink is my email account and it works fine for sending and receiving mail.
I checked the inbox on all the others and they are empty.
