Worried running a 300mhz axim at 300mhz instead of at 200mhz...any problems

i always prefer to run my 300mhz axim at 300mhz speed instead of the power saving 200Mhz... i dont really care about battery life but am i affecting my axim in any way...?

i mean.. would running it at 200mhz make it last longer .. ?

thanx in adv.

You would prolong your battery life if you had it running at 200MHz. But since you really don't care about battery life, you might as well set your power settings to normal to stay at a constant 300MHz. basically the more you use your processor the more power you will consume.

yes.. but... would running my axim at 300mhz shorten it's life .. not battery life... in other words.. would the hardware of the axim last longer if it ran at a lower speed?

hope sum1 can understand my question

I would hope not. I've had a P2 200 mhz processor running at 200 mhz in a Gateway PC and it's still going strong after 6 years. I would think a processor in a pocket pc would be good enough quality to run at the speed it was designed to run at.

I'm guess you're only losing battery life by running at the regular 300 mhz speed. the slower speed is just a power saving feature. Running at the normal 300 mhz on a processor designed to run at 300 mhz shouldn't hurt it.

no, you're not going to hurt it at all running it at 300 Mhz all the time. it's not like overclocking an AMD or something like that, it won't burn up.

Sorry. When you mentioned hardware I considered the battery as part of the hardware. If you mean, would 300MHz shorten the life of the processor, then no. Intel has made sure that the processors would last for a long time for its intended use.
If you mean hardware as in the screen, SD slot, CF slot, buttons, memory then it comes down to other things and not because of the processor at 300MHz.

If you're worried about the CPU, remember that it's doing the same amount of work at either speed, it's just taking less time while running at 300 MHz. It's not like it's doing more and it's going to wear out faster or anything. It won't hurt it since it's made to run that fast, and even if it did, I'm sure the CPU is going to outlast most of the other parts, like the RAM and the screen -- but, even then, since nothing moves, nothing's going to wear out that quickly. I'm sure you could probably run an Axim for 15-20 years if you took care of it and replaced the battery once in awhile.

Think about it this way.

You have a 300 lb capacity box... but you're putting 200 lbs of junk in it. You wont hurt it by running it slower than 300.

From day 1 I cranked mine to manual on 300MHz

No problems... so far...

My battery life sucks because I have the Netgear MA701 Wi-Fi card in all the time.
