Question Axim Advanced

Hello,

I am thinking about purchasing an Axim Advanced and I was wanting to know if the 64MB SDRAM was enough to run the programs that come with the computer, games and MP3s. If not, what is a good recommended amount? Also, what other upgrades would you recommend? Is the case that comes with the Axim good or would you order a different one from DELL? Thanks for your input? :)

i would suggest an aluminum case. like a rhino case or something. you can beat the tar outta your axim (even drop it) with the case on, and it won't get hurt a bit.

I've found the 64MB of RAM to be actively sufficient for all of my needs. Just to give an example, I usually have running:

Pocket Informant (PIM)
Shanghai Essentials
Notes (mostly recorded)
WinAmPaq
Resco File Explorer
Microsoft Reader (for dictionary)

and a few other software proggies (speed clean, battery pack) running and have never experienced a significant memory problem. I do have the processor locked at 400MHz to make sure I don't have too much of a bottleneck though.

I'd recommend the RhinoSkin aluminum case as well, I have one and I love it. I'd consider the hard plastic one that clips onto your belt (forget the manufacturer at the moment) if I had room on my belt for it. But I think you'd do alright with either of these.

Yep, RAM fine...sd or cf cards good for storing more stuff over time & organising files...

I use the leather zipped case from Dell, which is ok...on reflection though probably would have bought an aluminum if I hadn't of gone in and bought it all at once...takes your choice...just not the same level of protection!

Personally would recommend screen protectors...others will disagree but depends on personal preference...better imo to be safe very sorry

Well, the built-in RAM is sufficient for storing and running programs, but as soon as you decide to start installing games, MP3s, videos, ROMS, documents, presentations, pictures, etc etc etc......you will definitely need a couple CF or SD memory cards.

As for add-ons, everyone will say you need this or that, but it totally depends on how you use your PDA (Axim in this case :D). However, a decent stylus (4-in-1 even better), a nice case, some screen protectors, and probably some holders for bike/car/belt would not hurt ;)

From then on, the possibilities are endless.......
