Arkon Resources, Inc. announced a new Powered PDA Mount solution for Dell Axim users today.

(Text from the Arkon Site)

The Powered PDA cradle is set at 5V. The built-in amplified speaker on the back of the cradle will significantly help you clearly hear your MP3 music, digital books, and GPS voice commands above the noise of the road.

This revolutionary cradle also includes a volume control knob, power LED, and a USB interface for popular models of GSM phones (cords vary by make of phone and are sold separately)

Each cradle comes with a universal multi-angle pedestal whereby allowing perfect directional placement in the vehicle at all times. The flexible rectangular pedestal base conforms to the shape of your dash or console, even for those that are not a flat surface. The pedestal attaches to your vehicle with a strong 3M adhesive and can easily be detached from the cradle should you want to put the cradle in the glove compartment while you are away from the vehicle.

The cradle with all these built in features is reasonably priced at $69.95. The model number for the Arkon Powered PDA Mount for the Axim is CM525

Wow, I'm impressed.

This is an honest to god solution for GPS. If I can find a good USB GPS system with a strong antenna, I think I might get one of these for GPS in my BMW. I really like it...and the price is very reasonable.

I would assume it would use a cigarette lighter power adaptor?

This mount sounds kind of cool, but I don't think it would work very well for me. I drive about 45K miles a year with my job, so I'm in the car quite a bit. The times I use my PDA or cell phone when driving, I have to be extra careful. I use the speakerphone or Jabra earset with the cell phone. To dial it, I often hold it with the streering wheel so I don't take my eyes completely off the road.

I can't see myself being able to operate my Axim with it mounted as I would have to take my eyes completely off the road. I know from experience how hard it can be with the glare coming in the windows to see the screens on my PDA's and Laptop - if they were fixed it would be difficult to adjust the position of the screen to minimize glare. I guess I could install limousine window tint, huh?

The very point regarding the GPS utilization is that the voice instructions of the GPS/nav system can be amplified and one DOESN'T HAVE TO TAKE EYES OFF THE ROAD!

Am I reading this right...it has the sound feeder built in? The description says it has a speaker on the back that doesn't sound like the FM modulator to me.

Am I missing something?
