File Logic?

Couple of questions for you all:

1. What determines which folders are veiwable from application file search lists? Maybe I'm not using the correct words but in some applications when you go to open a file, it calls up a dropdown list of folders, called "All Folders" to search in. You can not browse from these lists and they don't always include all the available folders. Does this make any sense to anybody?

2. Why do I have multiple copies of some of my data files? For example, I have an Excel file named workout.pxl. But, I also have others named "changed copy of workout.pxl" and " changed copy of changed copy of workout.pxl". Why?

Thanks to everyone for all the help I've received in the past and future from this board!

As for question 2 that might have something to do with Outlook messing up on your computer and trying to combine the files.

Do you mean Activsync? Outlook shouldn't have anything to do with a PocketExcel file. But, you might be on to something there. Has anybody else experienced this?

Actually, now that I think about it, I did a recent restore from a backup. Afterwards, Activsync asked if I wanted to "combine" all the data. I bet thats where they came from.

Now, can anybody clue me in to the answer to my first question? Why doesn't an "All Folders" drop down list show all folders?

Apps look in the My Documents folder for data. They also look one level deeper.

My Documents\document1 will be found
My Documents\public\document 1 will be found
My Documents\public\special\document1 will not be found.

The All Folders list in this case would include the public folder but not the special folder.

You also can prepend this with the My Documents location, ie RAM, ROM or Storage Card.

So if you have:

RAM\My Documents\Public
and
SD\My Documents\Howard
and
SD\My Documents\Howard\IsTheBest

Your All Folders should who Public and Howard but not IsTheBest.

Okay, I follow that. But, its still hard to understand. I assumed all folders meant all folders. I've had problems with severall apps.

For example, I moved some of my Pocket Bible files from "Mydocs/Laridian books" to "/Laridian Books" in the root directory of my CF Card. Then I had a devil of a time trying to open them from inside the reader program.

Another example, I put some Flexwallet templates in the Flexwallet application directoy. Then when I went to import these files the application couldn't navigate to them. I had to move the files into one of the directories that "all folders" recognized.
