OK, I'm WRONG

To get this off my chest,

I was WRONG that the PX255 could NOT do 400 with a 100 bus.

There, I said it.

But other than taking someone's word for it, I dug in the Intel PDF's and saw how it was generated for myself.:p

ftp://download.intel.com/design/pca/...s/27869301.pdf

At any rate, digging in the Xscale PDF, we see that there's 2 possible settings to get 400 on any PXA255 processor:

27, 2, 2 gives 400 at a 100 bus

27, 4, 1 gives 400 at a 200 bus.

Now if the Dell is in fact doing it with a 100 bus, what's keeping someone from changing the settings with a program like Pocket Hack Master to run the faster bus? The proc is physically capable of doing it, and according to the PDF, everything else would be in spec.

I'm also seeing that depending on the setting used, it looks like a throttling mechanism could be employed to extend battery life. Both 300 and 400 on the 100 bus seem to have these settings.

Now, my other question is: if the iPaq 2210/2215 are running the same 100 bus that the Dells are, how is it blowing everything else out of the water?

So, furthermore, I apologize if I come off as WTF sometimes. I'm looking for the real answers. I don't like to take so-and-so's word for it because so-and-so or someone else said so. Show me WHY and I'll shake your hand AND respect you a lot more.

Super

I think ti's mostly the OS, the other place where they are REALLY ahead has to do with graphcis rendering, they have a sepearate graphics processor in the 2210 which is mostly responsible for that. That is hearsay, but I'd advise you to at least look into that.

So aside from the graphics processor, the 400 Axim with WM2003 should perform roughly on par with the 2215 then correct?

On benchmakr tests though I also saw that it has much higher throughput to the memory, so perhaps the read/write speed on their brand of memory is better as well... sorry I can give you anything concrete, but this is what I've pretty much picked up at other sites (I think it was 1.7 megs/second vs .58, an extreme difference like that), however, in general for everyday use, I would still expect them to be pretty comparable, once 2003 ships. (2003 seems to have a huge affect on all benchmarks I've seen)

Yeah, I was thinking the brand of memory might have something to do with it.

My Ax should be here sometime this week. Dell says it finally shipped. So we'll see what it can do.

Well to throw another 'rumored' idea in there...

I remember waaay back that it was said the Axim had a 100MHz clock on the main memory on the circuitry in the Axim.

Is Hack Master and XCPUScalar changing this 200MHz BUS the clock INSIDE the CPU or is this changing the external bus clock?

Can it be confirmed that the actual external/build-in/main memory on the Axim is 100 or 200 MHz bus speeds?

'IF' Dell is setting the BUS speeds at 100, it may actually be the correct way of doing so if the BUS speed 'outside' of the CPU is 100 and not 200.

Am I looking at this all wrong?

As far as I can tell, that's what it was doing.

I had Hack Master on my Axim before it went back and I had no trouble enabling the 200MHz internal bus while leaving the external bus at 100MHz.
