My backup battery meter states that my backup battery is at 90% (yesterday it was 80%), and I've only had my Axim since last Friday. I have never let the main battery go below 50% yet it appears as though the backup battery is being drained. Since it went up to 90% today, I'm guessing something is wrong with the sensor. My question is, has anyone heard from Dell on this issue? I've contacted them via email and so far the only point me to a link that shows how to check the battery meter, sorry... but that wasn't my problem!!
I do not want a faulty device, and I want to know what Dell plans to do about this problem.
Other than this, I am happy with this device.

Don't sweat it. The Dell is sensitive to small voltage changes. I saw one post where a fellow put a meter on the battery. At 3.00v it was 100% at 2.99v it dropped to 90%! That kind of change in voltage can come just when the battery changes temperature! The batteries Dell shipped are apparently fairly old and may suffer some shelf loss, so they may be near the threshold for the detection circuit. If it bothers you, spend $3 at Radio Shack and get a new one, that action seems to make them rock solid at 100% But most people have discovered that the batteries from Dell end up hovering in the 80-90-100% range. At that level the backup should last well over 24 hours after the main battery died. Theoretically a brand new backup could last 72 hours, but I wouldn't test that theory with my data!
I have removed my backup battery and measured the voltage when the
unit read 80, 90 and 100%. The voltage has always been 2.99 VDC +-
.01 VDC. That is 1/100th of a volt, insignificant. My conclusion is that the backup battery is not changing at all, and it is the Axim that is reading the voltage incorrectly. The
level of charge of the main battery, temperature, screen brightness,
number of apps open and processor speed at the time, could all affect
the battery % readings. So far it appears anything between 80-100% is
nothing to worry about. Will do further test if and when I see any
lower readings.

Recieved my Axim on the 24'th of December; always kept it charged above 60%. Yet I get a low backup battery warning . It shows completely 0% battery level. After a few on and off cycles of the PDA the back battery will register 100%. I checked the battery with a volt meter and it register 3.0 v.
My back-up battery cover has a slight "jiggle" to it. But I thought that was normal considering its design?
BTW: When I first installed the main battery it was in tightly; but when I removed/reinstalled it; theres a slight movement up and downwards. Its not noticeable unless you try to move it. Is this normal too?
This is what sucks when buying a product you can't demo: you have no idea what quality variances there are. <_<
Well I've contacted Dell's tech. support via email on many occasions, and they have yet to admit that anything is wrong.
cavuu, it sounds like you have done extensive testing on this subject, and I feel better about this situation, however I wish Dell would speak on this issue.

Has anyone else had problems posting to the Dell forum? After I log in, I cannot send replies to any of the message boards nor can I send private messages. I was able to post a message last Friday, but am having no luck on their right now.
My IE settings are set to the default settings so that shouldn't be the problem.

If you look back a couple of weeks on the dell site the moderator addressed this question. Seems like he didn't have an explanation for it either. You will find the the meter offten reads 80 or 90% and then in the morning it's back at 100%. I have not heard of anyone with it less than 80%. If it shows dead or critical, take it out and polish the battery with a slightly damp cloth, wipe it clean, keep your fingers off it and reinsert the battery.

Mine has been at 70% for a few days, went back to 80% one day and then back to 70%. I'll have to ship it back to Dell anyways due to a problem with the d-pad (right push..).

Hi Martin
Mine has the d-pad problem also. It works ok for most of what I do but still not the way it should. I just ordered one for my wife and it will be here early next week. It will be interesting to see if the problem is fixed.
The d-pad has little 4 dimples at the 4 directions, I assume this is so you can press it with the stylus. Will it work properly by using the stylus to push in this area only? Mine will not register at all if done this way. You need to press closer to the centre.
Can anyone with a good one let us know if it will work pressing with the stylus in the dimples?
If you have a digital meter it would be nice to know what the voltage is at 70%.

I tried using that navigator button by pressing it with my stylus, and mine will not register either.
My D-pad is shifted slightly to the right, even though it doesn't look quite right, it still functions properly. If the button begins acting up on me then I'll exchange it for a new one, however I don't feel like dealing with the hassle of exchanging it just because it doesn't look quite right.
I love my Axim! :)

Mine doesn't register either, but I tend to have more of a problem with up than right, and I have decided that this is because I was using my left thumb and it was kind of at an angle. When I use my right hand, it works alot better.

Hopefully Dell has now fixed the D-Pad problem.. I'll know next week when I'll call them.
As for the backup battery, it's back to 80%. Hmmm, I've just looked at it and it's now at 70%. According to my digital meter, it's at 2.993 volts.
