i have a basic 300 with 250 b2 and i was considering getting a replacement because i've read many that have gotten replacements with the better 255 chipset. i'm also hoping to get one with 2003 but it seems that it's unlikely cuz others have gotten the better chipset but not 2003. i just wanted to know, for those who have gotten replacements w/ the better chipset, if it's worth the hassle. my axim has never given me problems. everything has been working perfectly, including the d-pad. i don't want to get a replacement and have things go wrong all of a sudden. so i want to know if the better chipset is worth the risk and hassle. thanks in advance.
If your Axim isn't giving you problems, then Dell won't do the exchange for you. The chipset is better but if there is no problems, you won't be able to get the exchange. so you are better off with what you have now.

sorry ceej, i meant excluding the d-pad, which i don't use at all so it's not a problem for me. many have gotten replacements due to the faulty d-pad so i'm sure i can get a replacement if i wanted one. do you think it's worth it then since you said that the chipset is better?
All that I can tell you is, if you do not like how your D-pad works (for excel, games, etc.), get the replacement. Customer Satisfaction is supposed to be Dell's priority. There are no guaranties on what typ of unit you will get, that is if whether or not you will get the PXA250 again or a PXA255. You paid for an XScale processor in the Axim so that is what you have. But I guess I was one of the lucky ones who didn't get a refurb model with the PXA255 A0 stepping. It took some patience on my part but was worth it. It's up to you if you think it's worth the hassel.

i believe your one year is counted from the original date of purchase. i've gotten warranty replacements from other companies before and that's how it was so i'm assuming dell would be the same.

That correct. Or at least that is what a Dell Customer service rep has told me when I asked her about it. The warranty is good from the first day of purchase.

I'm curious. Next year, is Dell going to continue to make the thick X5 for those of us with warrantees? I'm planning on extending my warrantee. How is Dell going to handle replacements?
from what i saw on the dell website, it doesn't seem like you can extend your warranty. maybe because they will be eventually discontinuing this model so they wouldn't be able to replace it 2 or more years from now.
