From what I understand, the charging of an Li-Ion battery is a complicated process with voltage ramping required for optimal battery life. My question is whether the controller would be found inside the battery unit or inside the unit itself (Axim, cellphone, laptop, whatever). It occurs to me that if the controller is inside the unit, then charging the battery on the USB cradle independantly of the Axim would reduce battery life. Any experts out there who can answer this question?

The chip is actually in the battery housing... so don't worry, charge it in the USB cradle =)
