On a couple of occasions, my system has jammed up. I couldn't get it to do a soft or hard reset. Perhaps, I am doing something wrong on the reset procedures? I thought you just press soft reset and hold the power button down for a couple of seconds to get a hard reset.

I removed the battery. The system shut down and I then restarted it just fine. No lost data since the back up battery is in place. Any thoughts on this?

Any insights would be appreciated.

You have to be holding the power button down while pushing in the reset, not one then the other. :)

On mine, a hard reset is acomplished by holding the soft reset, then tapping the power button, and releasing both at the same time. The unit goes off, and when I hit power it says 'Hit [calendar icon] to erase all contents, Hit [some other button] to cancel'

At least that's what I remember happening, I haven't had to hard reset it but once, and it turns out the PC side was the problem.

This sounds like what was happening when I was pressing the record button instead of the reset button. The reset is the little dimple in the rubber side piece to the right of the button-looking record button.
Just removing the main battery does not hard reset, but removing both batteries will.
When you soft reset, the screen will show a dell logo.

Yesterday while reading forums, I removed the main battery to check the actual model number of me Ax. Before doing this I checked and the back up battery was showing 100%.

When I installed the main battery again the little devil had done a hard reset. I lost everything. I spent the rest of the day recovering from the hard reset.

Any ideas why this happened? I am afraid to ever remove the main battery again.

The exact same thing happened to me after switching from the standard battery to my extra battery. When I put the old one back in it did a hard reset.

I've had my main battery off briefly, and it did not reset. A message came up saying it was going to sleep mode.
If the backup battery does not function as it's supposed to, there's probably something wrong. Just for the heck of it, replace the backup battery with a fresh one and try it again.

All,

I experienced a "hard reset" this morning when switching main batteries. I took my fully charged spare from my charger and inserted on my Axim and oops I lost everything. This is the second time this has happened. I think I'll replace the backup tonite just too be sure. I'm wondering if the backups are seating properly. Mine backup battery cover may be a little loose. DOes any one else have this problem???
