first of all your phone company needs to make an adapter that connects from the axim hotsnyc port to the cellphone, if they dont make that then i think you are out of luck. But u can try this. Get a CF modem, then get a cable that your phone maker 99% of the time should be making, where it goes from the modem to the nextel phone, i do that with my laptop and my cellphone. Have a cable that connects to my phone to my modem jack. It might work with the axim.

well i have same problem, however i ordered a sync serial cable from dell and and going to try to put a null modem in between the nextel phone and the axim, i am trying this as a test. If it is a true serial data in and data out it should work. But i am accessing the packet data network on nextel. You might want a dial up which i guess is same connection. But remember the nextel phone has a serial connection coming out of it not the usb, which will not work at all. I think i have a chance with this since serial connections are dumb.
Wish me luck i will post results as soon as i get cable.

While I've been waiting for my axim to arrive, I've been looking for stuff (ie. memory, wifi, camara).
I also would like to connect to the internet through my nextel phone. I have nextel I95C with packet data through my company. I can connect to the internet through my laptop via a serial adapter. I found the following options I'd like to try when my Axim comes in.
First is a serial adapter that allows the Axim to sync cable to connect with the Nextel pc cable. It can be found on the nextel.com web page under phone/accessories. The part number is NTN8993
. It's on sale for 9.95.
If this works, I won't go the second option, because of the expense. SOCKET makes an adapter for the i50sx/i80s/i85s/i90c phones to connect to a Pocket PC via the flash card slot. This might be a faster connection speed, but the cost is $99.00 (http://www.esend.com/socket/product.asp?sku=DP3088%2D360&mscssid=66RR1BXLN TU29KGSDMB5HJLLWB8W4AH9#).
If anyone can try either method, please update this thread. I won't be getting my axim until the middle of February per Dells estimate. I'll try the db9 connector method and provide feedback.
Hope this helps,
Thanks

ok the serial syc cable works with the nextel phone as a Hanes compadable modem. Of course you need a cable for the Nextel phone that is serial too. Beware though no usb connection between the two will work. And also the part Motorola says is a unversal adapter is false it is not a null modem adapter, it is for a palm pda. Your going to have a very long cable when you attach the two cables with a null modem adapter and a gender changer from Radio shack. But when i first tryed it it was intermittent, i had to turn off flow control and play with the local dial set up you need to put a capital G in local dialing setup so it dials s=2 without putting other junk in there, though it didn't seem to matter when i first tryed it. i got aol messenger to work and msn messenger to work at same time no problems with that. Internet explorer was also working fine. You also should turn off active syc it seems to think the modem in phone is a host computer. i don't know why but in the connection perferences put parity as none and flow control as none when i did this i had not trouble logging on to the packet stream gold network. email me with questions

this is the easiest way to do it.
its a data cable that goes from your nextel to the sync port on your axim. its only 39.95.
you'll need to have Wireless Web service from nextel, along w/ the ability to use your phone as a dial-up modem from them. The messaging package is $15. This will give you 2-way messaging, full internet on your phone, and the ability to use your phone as a dial-up modem.
This, however, will tie up your phone and use minutes. If you don't have a lot, this may not be for you.
Alternatively, nextel offers a package called Packetsream, which will give you a direct connection to the internet w/o the need to dial-up, w/o the need to use minutes, and w/o the need to tie up your phone. These packages get quite expensive... The unlimited packages if 54.95/month.
W/ the packetstream gold option, you can get a wireless pcmcia card so you don't need to use an actual cable tho... If you have money, that's the way to go.

the thing i like about the gomadic website is they offer 2 different sizes.
standard = 16"
extended = 26"
and they are the same price.

I have the I90c phone, a Socket digital phone card, and the goldstream package. However the connections still are not easy to make the first time. You must set up your Axim connection using the directions from the nextel website under accessories/users guide/goldstream package. It includes instructions such as putting the phone number to dial out to as s=2 which you would never figure out without directions.
I am still having problems sending mail out but I recieve it fine.

I am a bit confused. I have the I90, with the Gomadic cable & an axim.
I still dont understand what I should put in as a username & password.
I have been following most of the goldstream package guide.
I have the full service messaging package.

I have used a Gomadic cable to connect my i90c and my i95 to my X5. Remember that when connecting the cellphone to the Ax the cellphone is your wireless modem. Therefore you will be using the cellphone to dial to an ISP. You must have Nextel wireless dialup service to use your cellphone as a wireless modem. Connect everything up and then configure your Ax to use the Nextel as a modem. The username and password that you will use is the information that you use to connect to your ISP.
To configure, goto Start -> Settings -> Connections Tab -> Connections Icon. Add a new modem. Enter your name for the connection. When selecting the modem, select Hayes Compatible on COM1. Enter your ISP's phone number. Next, put in your ISP username and Password. That's it. Then make sure your cables are connected and tap connect on your modem entry you just created. I have had great success using my i90c and my i95 after I upgraded.
Now I am waiting for Gomadic to come out with their new cable for the i730 (yeah I upgraded again) which should be available by the end of the month.
