Improved Screen????

I sent my month old PPC2002 in for an exchange and received a brand new basic Axim with WM 2003. Other than the slow operation, it looks great. As soon as I turned the new Axim on, I noticed that the screen is considerably brighter than the month-old Ax. Side-by-side, with both of them on the brightest setting, the new one looks considerably brighter and sharper. Just in case it was just my own biased opinion, I had a few other people compare the two--the new one is definitely brighter.

Did Dell improve the screen? Was the old was just defective? Do Axim screens typically vary when it comes to brightness?

Do you have both units set at full brightness? The Axim has an auto dimming feature that reduces brightness after a set time delay when on battery.

My brand new Axim seems nice and bright, and a few people have given me positive comments about it. I haven't actually seen an older one to be sure, but compared to some things I've read on this forum, mine has none of the dark spots that others have spoke of. Maybe just my imagination.

The new OS might allow more power to be allocated to the screen. Who knows. We'll find out when the upgrades come.

Yes, I do have both Axim's set to full brightness--that's what they are at when I compare them.

It sounds like Dell made the Axim's bright again. When I first received mine in December with the PXA250 B2stepping chip compared to my replacement with PXA255 A0 stepping chip, myfirst one was brighter and my current one has a yellowish contrast to it.
