I tried downloading a couple of things. I have checked this forum about this and still confused. My axim is in the cradle when I tried this. I went to the software to download and clicked on it. I saved it on my computer to a folder called Dell software. After that was complete I went to the folder and clicked on the icon. It said to extract. I did and nothing happend. What am I doing wrong. The programs I tried was Wisbar and Clear Temp.

Some programs you actually have to copy the .cab file over to the axim and run it there. It's annoying and confusing (IMHO) but it's just one of those things :)

I don't know a lot about this but I have had the same problem in the past. I was doing the actual extraction wrong.

Here's how it works for me. Right click on the file, choose "Extract to...", brouse and select Pocket_PC My Documents. At that point it should either self install from there, or it will install the next time you sync using ActiveSync.

Hope this helps.

It is the shared file between your PC and PPC that was created the first time you put the Ax in the cradle and went through the set up wizard in ActiveSync. You created a partnership and named your PPC. The wizard then created this shared file on your desktop. I left mine at default which was Pocket PC. You probably named yours something else Just extract it to whatever that shared file is.

Then if the downloaded file has an .exe file, click it and off you go.

Good Luck

I can not find this file anywhere on my computer. If you could be really specific to where on my computer. The other problem I am having is I made a word doc. on my ppc and I can not find it on my computer? I can find it on Active sync and it has an "A" symbol and when I click on it it just describes it. These things make you feel a little dumb. Any help.

To start with, find out the name you gave to the Axim. Go to Start, Settings, System, About, Device ID and write down the name it shows there.
Now, on your desktop PC, or whatever you connect it to to sync, go to My Documents and open it.
Look for a folder with the name you found on the Axim.
Look at your PC desktop screen and see if you see an icon with that name.
If you don't see it, open the My Documents folder and right-drag the Axim folder onto the desktop, and when you release it select Create shortcut here.
This folder contains all the files and stuff you transfer when you synchronize the Axim with the PC.
Anything you put in this folder will be automatically sent to the coresponding folder on the Axim.

in my documents Pocket_PC is not there. You then said to open my documents and drag the Axim folder onto my screen. I don't have Axim folder.

What happens when you synchronize the Axim?
When I installed Active Sync, it created a desktop folder called MCPPC (which is the name of my Axim). It should have created a folder for you of the name listed in the Axim ID. Did you tell it not to do so?
I have no idea why you don't have this.

You can try renaming the Axim, using the rules you see there about no spaces, etc. and then reconnect it to the PC.
Active Sync should see it as a new machine and offer a partnership. Let it create the sync folder this time.
