Right, the internal (PXBus) should be 200 MHZ and the external should be 100 MHZ for the PXA255. the PXA250 was 100 MHZ and 100 MHZ. We are in agreement there. But the PXBus on the PXA255 should not be affected on the Axim unless the Axim itself is calling for it to stay at 100 MHZ. It is strange indeed.
Although the Intel documentation states that it should be otherwise, I wonder why the Axim is showing a 99MHZ PXBus (internal) with CPUID. I am going to try the settings in Pocket HackMaster that you posted and see if anything changes in CPUID...
Any thoughts?

cageyjames, you are great! With the settings you posted CPUID now identifies the PXBus as running 199 MHZ!!
So, do you think CPUID is flawed or maybe the Axim firmware is setting the Axim to the lower setting? I have Pocket HackMaster set at L=27 M=4 N=1 but CPUID is showing the settings at L=1 M=3 N=2 (maybe different variables??.

As for if its the Axim firmware nor not, I don't know. I would love to figure that out.

Well, at least when set CPUID shows the PXBUS is running at 200. This is a good thing. It is weird that it should read 100 on the default Axim...
I put in a message to Anton to see if he can shed light on the issue.
Thanks!

I posted on Anton's forums and he replied that the fetch function in his software would retreive the values...
Sure enough, my PXA255 Axim defaults at L=27 M=2 N=2 which runs the processor at a PXBus of 100 MHZ (99). This is not a hardware issue as I can easily change it with Anton's software to use the 200 MHZ (199) PXBus. Then it appears just like the 2215. I am seriously doubting that Dell ever changed that in their firmware and it is setting the PXA255 to the slower PXBus by default! The good news it that that is not a hardware issue, but a software one.

I got scammed
Bought the Axim detailed in my first post. It didnt have Mobile 2003 nor a 255 chip.. Im so mad. I don't want to have to send it back but im not sure what is a good remedy. I suggested to him that since he advertised it that way he should pay for the upgrade when it comes out.
Anyhow thanks for the input.

That was mis advertizing and should be reported to ebay.
Tell him to refund 30$ to your paypal account, and use that 30$ to buy the new os.;) otherwise he may fraud you again by not actually sending the upgrade, this way you know if he sent the money or not.

That is exactly what I told him to do and he did thankfully. I am still slightly disappointed with the 255 vs 250 difference but he can't do anything about that.
Ohh well lesson to anybody else.. Make sure to ask and confirm if it has 2003 on it and not just copied from the dell website.

Honestly, I used to be one of those users that always said that the PXA255 made all the difference.... That was until yesterday. I could be wrong but I don't see much of an advantage anymore. We figured out yesterday that the 199 MHZ PXBus on the PXA255 apparently is under one setting, L=27 M=4. With this setting on all PXA255 processors, it seems you lose the processor autoscale features. I believe you can still scale by software. So essentially I see the advantage of the PXA255 over the PXA250 as:
- Better battery life, fixed some bugs like cache, some internal hardware additions and changes.
The PXBus thingy isn't as big to me as I thought it would be. Granted, if you have the choice between PXA255 and PXA250 you choose the PXA255. But, in my opinion (and it is just that only my opinion), it is not that big of a deal...
Hope this helps a bit.
