Hallo

I have a 313kb .doc file that just won't let me open it change anything in it then click the "ok" button to save in pocket word. Yes it is a .doc file not a .psw file cause it just won't convert. It crashes Word XP when I try to convert it on my desktop and does pretty much the same thing in pocket word. But pocket word opened up all of my smaller .doc files its just this one its having problems with.

If anyone has any idea how to fix this please let me know.

Thank you for your time.

Sounds like perhaps a corrupt file.

You might try copying and pasting all of the contents to a new document, saving that and seeing if it will convert and open in Pocket Word.

I'm confused by this sentence:

It crashes Word XP when I try to convert it on my desktop and does pretty much the same thing in pocket word.

Word XP doesn't convert, nor does Pocket Word, Activesync does. So is the symptom that when you copy it back and forth from the Ax that it gets corrupted? Although you can bypass the conversion process, and although PW can open .doc files, PW still can't handle some aspects of Word documents (tables, for example), so if you open it on the Ax and save it, then copy back to the PC bypassing conversion, it may well be corrupted where PW can't handle the formatting.

I don't know what version of Word you are using, but some older versions (like 97) had an option called "Allow fast saves" that was on by default. When you turn this option on, Word does not put everything in order, but inserts links to patches at the end of the document. The result is that everything gets horribly mixed up -- all to save a few seconds when saving files.

The location of this option might have moved. In my version of Word (XP) it's in Options / Saves / Allow Fast Saves. Make sure this option is off.
