Download Email with Active sync?

hpe somebody can help me.

I have a POP3 Account setup on my PPC and it works fine with my mobile phone (both GPRS and GPS). I also have a working Active Sync Connection to my Desktop PC.
When I synced the Axim, I sometimes found new Mail in my Inbox which was obviously downloaded when the Dell was synced in the cradle.
(There is no Outlook running on the Desktop, but a permanent Internet Connection through a ADSL Router)

But now this mail download stopped working and I am lost because I do not know where to start looking. In my manual it looks like an Internet connection through the Active Sync USB cable should not be possible at all, or am I wrong?
It must be possible, because there was new mail in my Inbox, and it must have been downloaded through the active sync link.

Werner

There is an option in ActiveSync to allow an "internet pass-through" so that you can check email, browse the web, etc. without using ActiveSync.

On the desktop, Outlook does not have to be open, but it will need to be installed and used, since that's where ActiveSync gets its email from. If you prefer to get it directly, setup a New Service in your Pocket PC's Inbox, and just select that service rather than the ActiveSync service. A separate Inbox will be kept for each Service you create.

thank you vy much for your answer. It works now.
I had to create a new POP3 setup like you said, and to allow Microsoft connection manager internet access through my personal firewall.
What I do not understand is why a new mailbox is necessary, and not only a change of connection settings in my old one.
But anyway, I can download my mail when syncing, thats what counts.

cheers,
Werner
