After weeks of Reader dysfunction (Dictionaries yes, Free books from Microsoft no), I checked my version using kirador's advice. My Reader problem with my prefixed unsharp-Axim Version A04 -- as opposed to AOK) was that it reported the "no longer able to read" message while Microsoft reported that I HAVE the latest version! What was wrong was that I didn't, I had version 2.2.1 rather than 2.2.2.
So I installed the later version on top of the earlier (even though MS informed me that I had to remove the earlier version--something that I thankfully couldn't figure out how to do, since Reader wasn't listed as being installed in the remove software list, only MS activation). Everything has worked fine since. Thanks!
In summary, by ignoring Microsoft's explicit instructions and by ignoring its claim that I had the latest version, I was able to make Reader work. I leave it to the rest of you to find a moral to this story.
Thanks,
Bob (along with Otto, one of the few male palindromes)
