How can I record a long lecture?
Anyone have any ideas? I want to record a long string of audio. The recorder only records for a few minutes and stops. I'd like to record for a couple hours if possible.
I assume I would need a 3rd part application that I could save the sound file directly to the SD card.
Can anyone help me out?

It would probably be a good idea to buy a tape recorder. In case you haven't noticed the Axim's mic isn't exactly top-of-the-line. Two 3rd party apps that come to mind are ADB Idea and TreNotes. ADB Idea is a program like TreNotes that's free, but has less features. I think they both record notes, but I don't know about storing to SD cards. That might be something you could edit in the registry though.

Don't bother wish Resco Audio, the only way to do a recording that long would be in mp3 format yet when recording in mp3 format using this program the audio becomes choppy and garbled.

I finally got Resco Audio Recorder working, and it does a nice job once you learn what the different settings do. Documentation would have been nice... grr...
There is a freeware one called NoteM that I also have installed which does a fine job.
Resco's has 2 nice features: the 2x setting, which basically cranks up the mic to twice as sensitive (and nearly twice the volume, but hey...) and the VAS slider, which takes some playing with, but would be nice in a class or meeting situation where you could just press Record and it will only record when there's sound and will pause during moments of silence.
Both Resco Audio Recorder and NoteM allow you to select bitrates to record at, and will record to storage cards.
Sorry, I didn't post links, but everyone knows how to Google, right?

I hope that someone could develop an ogg recorder, since it is the best format for low bitrates. The only problem is that I'm not sure if the XScale has an FPU, but there are libraries that should be able to do the job, and the XScale should be fast enough.

Tonight we had the official opening ceremonies at my dad's new golf course :) I was video taping him and the battery suddenly went dead, so I had to think fast. I pulled out my Axim, opened notes and choose to store the file on SD card. I clicked the record button and let it go so I could record his speech. So between his and the other people's speeches, it recorded for close to half an hour, only using up about 50% of my 128meg SD card. Some of the quality isn't the best, but it's definately audible. I had the gain set to full, and the quality was about the second or third WORST setting i think. Hope that helps.

just the built in notes program. If you click the little tape icon on the bottom of the screen, it gives you controls like a tape deck. Just push the record one and away you go. I loaded the file to my PC, cleared up the static, and every word was well audiable (sp?).

Having a problem doing what you suggested using NoteM. I load it up and it responds with "unable to support the format". It plays wav files in a 'sticky' fashion [play-stop-play-stop etc]
I kind of like the app but cannot find a setting to tweak it.
Don't stay up tonite trying to fix me up.
thanks
